Today, we’d like to introduce you to Thia Lutich.
Hi Thia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I help empower parents to raise confident kids and have deeper connections within their families so that they can thrive in and out of school. With over 12 years of teaching experience in Arizona in public and private sectors, I’m an expert in building relationships with children that inspire confidence and result in academic success.
I struggled in school and was made fun of for not being able to read in 1st grade. I actually got in trouble for it, and the teacher took recess away from me. I was embarrassed, ashamed, and scolded for not being on a track like my peers. I was ignored and constantly felt like I didn’t matter and wasn’t good enough. I even had to repeat the first grade.
With all the challenges during my early years, I was determined to graduate high school (and did it a semester early)! And it took me a couple of years to know what I wanted to do with my life. Eventually, I enrolled in college and gained confidence in my academic abilities. I transferred over to Arizona State University and graduated Cum Laude!
Not bad for the girl who struggled throughout her early education.
After graduation, I began my teaching career working in both the public and private school sectors and have taught kids from kindergarten to 4th grade. The 2020-2021 school year was a life changer. I spent my days at home teaching on a computer, five grade levels every single day, while also having two of my own children at home with me.
During this time, I also made big changes to benefit the emotional health of these children at home. I saw problems (viewing their classes during specials: PE, Music, Art, etc. The kids at home were on MUTE, simply watching these activities. It infuriated me, and I decided to bring about change.
With the school’s permission, I shifted the school schedule for online learners, and every single child who was at home had to begin their day with me twice a week and end their day with me every single day rather than watch their homeroom special classes on a screen. I created a community!
At one point, I had about 50 kids online with me all at once. And it WORKED! I had parents emailing me telling me how happy their child was when it was “Lutich Time.”
I was able to TRULY see and hear these children. I made them feel loved and safe. I had never met many of these kids in person, and I was still able to connect with them. This experience gave me the inspiration and confidence to leave the school system and serve families independently.
I opened Lutich Learning LLC. in May of 2021. I support kids ages 5-16 one-on-one, and I also work with parents. My business exists because I know how hard it is to be a kid, and I know how hard it is to be a parent – I make it less hard. With my strategies and secrets, we make it fun again, and I help parents see their kids again!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, ha! The mind is a powerful thing, and I have learned that we can use it as a tool to take us to new levels, or we can allow it to keep us small and safe. It is always easier to stay mediocre and not make the moves or take risks. I am grounded by my faith and hold the saying “I am comfortable being uncomfortable” at the forefront of my mind. There have been many struggles along the way.
Fear of what others may think, being misunderstood, and fear of failure are all pretty typical human stuff, I think. With all the fear, I am confident in my faith and know what I’m doing is what I’m supposed to be doing, and it is much bigger than me. All my childhood pain, all the pain of children I have known, the pain of parents I know… the work I do is for all of that. Bringing healing and new ways of thinking to all the families and myself.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My business was created to empower parents to raise confident kids and have deeper connections within their families so that they can thrive in and out of school.
I’m known as the “child whisperer” because I understand kids’ language, who they are, and what they need as individuals. I have a unique gift where I can translate the secret language back to parents and offer clear strategies that work. I’m most proud of those moments when I witnessed a parent gain a new perspective about their child, and they reconnected with hope and understanding of one another.
I work intimately with families in a one-on-one setting. This opportunity of working together allows for a tailored approach to meet the individual needs of each family. This work ranges in topics: navigating healthy friendships, growing confidence in their child, support with family dynamics, regulating emotions, anything regarding school, parent/child relationship, and ally for their child.
I also host a community of moms. This is a time when I teach a concept that is a topic of concern or interest amongst the group, as well as open coaching that gives each mom a chance to be supported in an area they are currently dealing with.
This is a powerful time when women come together to support each other in their journey of motherhood. I am so proud of the community I am building and excited to see real women sharing their intimate lives with one another. This vulnerability brings me hope for our kids as we model that they don’t have to do things alone.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The biggest lesson I have learned is to trust myself. So many well-intentioned, educated, successful people want to tell you how to run your business or what the next steps should be.
I’ve learned to take it all in with gratitude, let it sit, and listen for my inner knowing of what my next steps should be. The best outcomes have been when I am in sync with myself and trust my gut regarding what I must do. Growing a business “the right way” for me is to be patient and heart-centered.
