Exploring Life & Business with Shelby Morgan of Skin by Shelby Aesthetics

I started suffering from acne at 12 years old. At 13, I knew I wanted to work in the aesthetic industry. I would Google “Best Acne Products” and use all my money to buy these products. Looking back, they were not the best, but it did spark my interest in skincare. I looked into dermatology, but I soon learned what aestheticians were. A common misconception that even I believed for a long time was that aestheticians just massaged people with cucumbers in their eyes. I soon learned that was only sometimes the case, and there was a medical side to the industry. I started planning on how to graduate high school a semester early, which I did in December 2020, and started the aesthetics program in January 2021.

Before I knew it, I had graduated, passed my state boards, and worked at a salon. I was so excited to begin my journey, but that soon faded. The workplace became so toxic that I began losing my passion for the one thing I loved to do the most. I brought up the crazy idea of going solo and starting my own business. I was scared, but my family reassured me everything would work out. I used all my savings and began purchasing products and furnishings to put in the space I found in a private gym. I started taking classes and continued education courses to become a Medical Aesthetician. I am now an Acne Specialist with Face Reality Skincare. I have mastered the art of chemical peels, micro-needling, and home care regimens to help all skin types and concerns.

I am almost a year into running my business, and all the hardship was worth it. I still have a long way to go and new goals to work towards, but I couldn’t have done it without my family and loyal clients. I will forever be grateful to have been blessed with such a fantastic opportunity and passion for being an aesthetician. Not many can say they started a successful business at 19 years old.

The biggest struggle was being patient with the process. I had to constantly remind myself that everyone has different paths, and all of the successful aestheticians I look up to had a path that looked much different than mine, and that’s ok. I would not be the most successful overnight. Getting there takes time, dedication, and lots of continued education. Patience is such a big challenge for me, and it takes a lot of constant reminders that I will reach my goals one day. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason.

I specialize in Acne and Anti-aging treatments. I have helped dozens of clients reach their skin goals with custom home care regimens, professional treatments, support, and knowledge. A big part of my business is social media, specifically Instagram. I enjoy creating content to spread awareness of all skin concerns and everything that goes into skincare. I take pride in providing relaxation while prioritizing results. It can be nerve-wracking to go into a new establishment, so I ensure my clinic is a safe space for everyone. Although I am fairly new in the industry, I want all my clients and future clients to know that I am constantly bettering my craft, doing research, and only working with brands that have ethics that align with mine.

To some, success can sometimes mean lots of money or a large business. Success to me is when you have people that are loyal to you. It shows a lot when clients continue to come for your work and trust you. You know you have succeeded when you impact and change dozens of lives for the better.
