Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Duffy
Shannon, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I always knew I wanted to help people which has been evident with all of the different roles I have taken on as a psychotherapist, supervisor, coach, resource, instructor, bartender, etc. Understanding the value of providing guidance, insight, compassion, and motivation has allowed me to learn more about myself while developing my profession and business.
During the pandemic when my role shifted into virtual psychotherapist, I looked to explore ways to feel more comfortable with the changes. This opened the door to traveling more and I relocated to Phoenix, AZ from Chicago, IL. I embraced the virtual psychotherapist role and have been exploring more of the Western states as well as other countries. It has been important for me to have flexibility and create a health work/ life balance.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Trying out new places to live or working in different environments can always impose its challenges. There were some natural disasters, medical concerns, and self-doubt in how I made decisions that arose frequently. I was able find meaning in how to either pivot or focus more on how I am living according to my values. Which led me to start my own business and continue to build a private practice that aligns with helping people and staying true to what makes me feel fulfilled.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am a licensed Psychotherapist who provides virtual individual and couple’s therapy. I specialize in working with high achieving individuals who typically present with anxiety, stress and perfectionism tendencies. I work specifically with athletes at all levels of their sport from performance anxiety to injury recovery. In addition to working with eating disorders and developing a healthy relationship with food and body image. I want my clients to continue to achieve their high standards and goals and how we approach that in the therapeutic process is to create a healthier path towards becoming the best version of themselves.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Well, I am of Irish heritage, so I do believe luck has played a role in my life both personally and professionally. However, the luck I may have relied on through growth and development in the past has shifted to inner self-trust. In the past I felt luck may have created opportunities and now I feel I trust the process of how I make decisions and allow everything to work out how it is going to, which it has opened many doors and opportunities.
