Meet Shanice La’chelle of SLA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanice La’chelle.

Hi Shanice, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I moved to Arizona, October of 2017 after graduating from college with a BA in Fashion Merchandising from The University of Akron. I worked for a couple of big named fashion brands but always felt like just going to work as a manager and coming home every day was not something that I wanted to do long-term. I realized that the role that I was in did not allow me to really dive into every aspect of fashion that I loved. Once I realized this, I started to look into other things that I could do with my degree. I always wanted to have some type of brand that I ran. The issue was just not knowing how to get started. I began to do a lot of research and asking questions, and in August of 2018, I launched SLA. SLA stands for “Shanice La’chelle Apparel.” I wanted my brand to be a reflection of myself, friends, and things that I have learned in my time in fashion. I have built my company around the image of royalty. I come from a community that often refers to ourselves as kings and queens, so I wanted to build off of that.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. I had a hard time trying to find a balance when it came to doing everything myself. I was a person that did not like to ask for help, but when running your own business, you can’t do that.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The name of my business is SLA and we specialize in women’s apparel. We have built our brand around the idea of royalty. When you shop with SLA, you shop like royalty, no matter your style. I would have to say that I am most proud of all of the people that SLA has worked with so far. I have had the opportunity to work with some of phoenix’s top talent.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
It would have to be, do as much research as possible and try to connect with people that are doing what it is that you are trying to do.
