Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachael Smith.
Hi Rachael, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In January 2019, during a middle-of-the-night feeding session for my then-newborn, I decided online shopping would help keep me occupied and awake. I downloaded the Poshmark app and started perusing it. The more time I spent on the app, the more I noticed closets with hundreds or thousands of listings, and I realized there were people reselling fashion for extra or even full-time income. Before discovering Poshmark, I frequently resold household items we no longer needed. Once I started listing and selling on Poshmark, I learned as you go; taking good photos, writing item descriptions, where and what to source, etc. I listed a combination of items from my closet and items donated to me by family or friends, and I also started thrifting regularly. During the first three years of my reselling journey, we were allowed to spend time with my little one and make some extra income for our household. There would be brief periods during that time frame where, when needed, I could even cover our mortgage and essential bills. In 2022, live selling/live commerce started taking hold in the United States. Poshmark launched beta live sales late summer of 2022. By September, I had applied and been approved to sell during the beta on Poshmark. I hosted my first live sale on Poshmark in October and have been live selling full-time since. My business on Poshmark has grown exponentially, selling more in 9 months of live selling than I did with three years of traditional listings.
It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
While there have been no major potholes in my reselling business journey; reselling fashion/clothing generally requires consistently staying on top of the ever-evolving fashion trends, designers, and brands.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Daily Thrift (two_a_rachael on Poshmark) is a secondhand fashion reselling business specializing in women’s clothing, shoes, and handbags ranging from high-end and designer to everyday brands and vintage; I handpick each item and then showcase and auction via a live sale on Poshmark. I’m known for hosting upbeat, entertaining, transparent, and informative live sales with the best pricing. As a brand, I’m most proud of my strong relationships with my customers. When I host a live sale, it feels like something other than business or work. Instead, I am spending time with a group of friends. My customers know I work hard to find the best secondhand fashion and bring it to them at a price they won’t find elsewhere, with transparency and accuracy in item condition and description.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Aside from the amazing weather we get most of the year, I love how easy our city is to navigate, even the downtown areas. I also love the natural beauty of our city; there are so many great places to hike or spend time out enjoying nature. Having lived in Phoenix for a total of 16 years and been a frequent visitor my entire life, what I like least about Phoenix is seeing the affordability we were once known for as a large city slipping away.
