Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Obrist

Hi Nicole, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My husband, Tony and I have always dreamed of owning and operating a coffee shop! Our love of good coffee started in the Pacific Northwest, as well as our travels where we would seek out local coffee shops to visit. This passion continued as we moved to Arizona in 2018. When this shop (which we had visited as customers many times) came on the market, we couldn’t see ourselves not owning this shop. We purchased the shop in January of 2024, refreshed the shop in August, and have spent a lot of time sourcing local favorites including locally roasted coffee, local chef prepared gelato and local fresh baked pastries that are delivered daily. We have spent a lot of time doing research and development (the fun part) to curate these specific local products. You’ll often see us working in the shop, and if you’re lucky, you’ll get to meet our pups, Gizmo and Buster

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course not. It was a learning curve in the beginning since this was a completely new industry to both Tony and I. But we were very fortunate to have 3 amazing employees that have remained with us and are the core of our amazing team. We now have 7 employees by our side and we truly feel like they are family. Business within this industry is unpredictable so it’s never the same day or week for us. But we enjoy the challenges and continue to work to make this a local favorite as well as a favorite for the visitors of Old Town Scottsdale.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a locally owned coffee shop serving up crafted coffee drinks, made to order crepes, local gelatos, locally baked pastries, paninis and breakfast sandwiches. We source as much of our products from local businesses, roasters and bakeries. We strive to provide a wonderful experience for our customers.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Appreciate the support team you have and don’t be shy to ask other industry peers for insights that will help you with your goals.
