Exploring Life & Business with Monica Stanley of Monica Stanley Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Stanley.

Hi Monica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It was the birth of my twins, now 18, and the loss of my mother, all within several short months of one another, that propelled me into a career in photography! What began as a hobby and a form of self-therapy, with my very first digital camera in hand, became a new purpose, and a new career! I have a long-time love of photography and old photographs. Back to my early childhood, I have enjoyed taking pictures, documenting and preserving memories, and found I enjoyed doing that for others as well. It allows me to be creative while also contributing financially to my family. I find it to be very fulfilling and purposeful! I celebrated 15 years this year and wouldn’t wish to do anything else! I am grateful and will enjoy every opportunity that I am given to capture special moments and memories for those who allow me to!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I would say the most challenging part of this career for me would be comparison. It can definitely stir up some self-doubt for me at times! There are many talented photographers, but we each have a unique eye and creative process. Other photographers have also been for me, from the very beginning, a much loved and trusted community! There is a balance between community and competition when we all want to work, but I have actually gotten some of my best opportunities from other trusted professionals in the industry, and I am always happy to refer to and support them too!

We’ve been impressed with Monica Stanley Photography, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business has been built on quality over quantity. With cell phones being almost as good as many professional cameras, there is always an abundance of photos being taken, but I enjoy working with my clients to create a unique set of images that translates into art. People want to preserve memories and share their stories; from an engagement to a wedding, the birth of a child, celebrating 50 years of marriage and everything in between! I love to work with high school seniors, couples and families, as well as businesses, helping them to curate their brand. We all want to be seen and remembered and creating strong images to do that is what I love the most about what I am blessed to do!

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Going to the lake with my family. The lake is still a place I feel relaxed and refreshed even when life feels stressed!
