Exploring Life & Business with Mollee Richey of Posh Petals

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mollee Richey.

Hi Mollee, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always had a passion for events! It started at a young age, planning my own extravagant kid birthday parties complete with themes, customization and of course a lot of DIY details.

I then shadowed my Aunt Jeri, who was a wedding planner and really fell in love with being a part of such a special and memorable day for the couple! After working at a local party rental business for a few years, I launched “Peace of Mind Event Design” in 2013 and never looked back.

I continued to grow the business while maintaining a day job at a nonprofit, where I was in charge of the fundraising events and marketing. During COVID, my friend Katie who owned Posh Petals approached with the idea of buying the business. It was something I really wanted to explore, as I knew it would go hand in hand with my planning business and solidify my opportunity to be fully in the wedding and event industry that I had grown to love so much.

In 2022, I left the nonprofit to come work for Posh Petals and took over ownership officially at the start of 2o23! We are so blessed to have the principal designer still with us, Jenn Davis, who has over 25 years of floral experience and is a true artist!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As it is in any business, there are great days and there are hard days – learning an entirely new trade is not for the faint of heart. I am so much more appreciative of what wedding and event florists do, now that I have a better understanding.

There are so many things that happen with the flowers before we even get to design them – meeting with the clients and doing our best to get their budget and vision to align (which is often times a challenge), putting together proposals, ordering the product from our wholesaler, creating mechanics for the floral installations, processing the flowers and then finally designing them.

I think many people have a misconception of what floral design really is about so we are constantly striving to educate our clients and make sure we are extracting the vision in their head and replicating it as closely as we can while meeting our beating their expectations with the final result.

As you know, we’re big fans of Posh Petals. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Posh Petals is known for being a custom floral studio – we do not have predetermined designs or structured packages for our wedding and event florals. We truly take the time to find out what the sender is wanting to convey with the florals and then create something unique that will stand out and really resonate with the recipient.

For our wedding florals, we pride ourselves in being able to understand the many different floral design styles and in the end, give the couple exactly what they are looking for without having to specialize in just one style.

We are able to accommodate traditional floral requests, as well as achieve more modern and organic style florals with ease. Each couple and the wedding they are planning are very different, and we want the florals and their overall wedding design to be a reflection of them and the things they love.

We also do not have set minimums for events, as we understand florals are expensive and can add up quickly. We are more than happy to accommodate requests for couples only needing ceremony florals or possibly just needing personal flowers (i.e. Bridal bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, etc.) versus requiring them to have us provide all of their florals. We want to remain flexible and help give our clients advice on how to achieve the look and feel they are going for, while also staying on budget.

Pricing:

  • Bridal Bouquets begin at $350
  • Centerpieces begin at $175 each (economical options available)
  • Boutonnieres begin at $25
  • Ceremony florals can range from $500 – $3,000++
