Exploring Life & Business with Meli Richardson of Light of the World Media

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meli Richardson.

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
It was the summer of 2017, I had won a business competition and all I had left to do to release the funds was to write a business plan. I had never written a business plan in my life, and I had 5 children to entertain at the same time. After some fervent prayer, The ABCs with Jesus was born—the book aimed to use scripture to teach children about Jesus and 26 of his outstanding qualities. The business plan passed the test, and the true challenge began – writing a book from scratch. Fast forward to August 2022, when we picked up our first print of 1000 coloring books made in the USA. Many organizations contributed to making The ABCs with Jesus: Coloring Book. My friend Maggie was so kind to introduce me to retail with a place in Vintage79 Boutique inside Blush Beauty Bar in Alamogordo, New Mexico. I had a lot of support getting off the ground, and I am working on paying it forward by helping another woman achieve her goals via The Empowering Moms Project.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My most significant challenges include explaining to my toddler that these crayons are mommy’s inventory and finding a quiet place to make a phone call. Running a business with kids around should be classified as an extreme sport, as I am often dashing to the printer to beat my son from grabbing the crisp paper. Starting a business from scratch and raising children are acts of love and patience, and I am blessed to be able to do both.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Light of the World Media is an American multimedia production company centered on Christian principles. We are focused on making the world a better place by helping people. We connect children with Jesus using scripture and their creativity via The ABCs with Jesus: Coloring Book. A large portion of our efforts is to reach children who are in need of hope, like the kiddos at Phoenix Children’s Hospital who lack activities while they are waiting to be healed. We also help people accomplish their dreams. Through The Empowering Moms Project, we are working with community organizations to create opportunities for moms to get access to a paid virtual training opportunity, which can be done conveniently. In addition, with the help of our business sponsors, we bridge the gap between a stay-at-home mom and the workforce by refining her professional skill sets and enhancing her financial literacy skills.

What does success mean to you?
Success is making the world a better place for everyone to enjoy. Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Creating positive memories with children while they are learning will bear good fruit. They will become adults with a solid moral compass, making the world a better place for everyone to enjoy.
