Today we’d like to introduce you to Leanne Blumberg.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey as an educator began in 2005 when I earned my Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Central Florida. This marked the start of a 15-year career teaching elementary school, where I developed a passion for helping children become confident readers. In 2020, I launched Read with Leanne in Florida, a reading tutoring service dedicated to a structured literacy approach that emphasizes phonics and decodable texts.
In 2023, I relocated to Tucson, Arizona, where I transformed a corner of my home into a vibrant classroom for in-person clients while continuing to conduct online sessions. Today, Read with Leanne serves over 50 students, supported by four dedicated teacher assistants. I am thrilled to have received more than 80 five-star Google reviews from families who have witnessed their children thrive as joyful readers.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey with Read with Leanne has mostly gone smoothly, but it has not been without its challenges. When I moved to Tucson, I had to rebuild my client base. Initially, scheduling online sessions across different time zones was difficult. Now, managing the increase in bookings has become my biggest challenge. I am committed to serving every child, so I am always optimizing my schedule to ensure that all children have the opportunity to take classes.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
What sets Read with Leanne apart in the tutoring world is our joyful, whole-child approach—our lessons are adventures rather than drills. We empower kids both emotionally and academically, helping them see themselves as reading superheroes. My animal crew enriches my classroom—my friendly cats, dogs, a bird, and a tortoise—who often join our sessions. Their cuddles, chirps, and presence add a sprinkle of magic that makes learning unforgettable.
I’m particularly proud of how Read with Leanne has grown from its humble beginnings in Florida in 2020 to a thriving community in Tucson, now serving over 50 eager learners. Glowing Google reviews highlight the exciting moments when a child reads their first sentence or finishes their first novel.
To your readers, I want to convey that we are more than just tutors—we aim to ignite a lifelong love of reading. Whether your child needs to catch up, get ahead, or discover the joy of stories, our in-person and online offerings are designed to help achieve that, one phonics breakthrough and furry friend cameo at a time. Reading is a superpower, and I’m passionate about helping every child unlock it.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love Tucson for its breathtaking nature, stunning mountains, and relaxed atmosphere. My favorite activity is taking sunset walks and spotting the adorable desert bunnies. However, like most Arizonans, my least favorite thing is the brutal summers. While I’m not in Phoenix, it’s just a short drive away, and I enjoy weekend trips there to shop, float on the Salt River, and explore the many restaurants. I dream of one day opening Read with Leanne tutoring centers around the country to help more children receive the gift of literacy.
