Exploring Life & Business with Lauren Searles of Solshine Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Searles.

Hi Lauren, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always known I wanted to help others and be of service. I studied Public Health at Syracuse University and then went into the Peace Corps, serving in the Community Health sector in the Andes Mountains of Perú. While I was very busy and certainly accomplished public health work in those two years, my favorite memories are the times spent with my host family and community.

I learned so much about their culture, values, and incredible strength. I then moved to San Diego where I worked for a small non-profit, helping the most vulnerable residents access pro-bono medical care. There, I facilitated many community health events, and I most thrived working one-on-one with patients, acting as an advocate, care coordinator, and on-site Spanish medical interpreter.

This time also showed me the importance of increasing access to different healing modalities – including alternative medicine/therapy. I sought training in alternative/holistic health education and I completed a year-long Reiki Mastership program with Shawna Schenk of Yoga With Shawna.

I soon realized it was time for me to move to the desert and start my own business to serve the Greater Phoenix area! I created Solshine Wellness, LC to bring more clarity, calmness, and connection to places of business and communities.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Since launching my business earlier this year, I’ve already had many reminders to flow with obstacles and be open to changing direction. Starting a business in a new area, without established professional connections, and during Covid… has certainly been filled with lessons and challenges.

I stay motivated by knowing that my mission and vision are based on the pure desire to help people heal and live a little lighter.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Solshine Wellness was created to improve access to alternative healing therapies and ease the feelings of stress and disconnection so many feel – especially during this Covid pandemic. I offer Reiki energy healing sessions to improve individuals’ clarity, calmness, and connection.

These multi-sensory energy balancing sessions are entirely unique for each client, in order to provide the most impactful healing session possible. Sound vibration, essential oils, and written messages are examples of tools used intuitively during a session. My clients appreciate my individualized approach and the opportunity to have a refreshing and meditative experience, providing healing and insight.

This time for “self-care” and focus on health/wellness is essential, which is why I look to partner with local businesses to provide this on-site opportunity for their hardworking employees. Community collaboration is also an important role of Solshine Wellness, and I often create healing opportunities with other practitioners and support local community health projects.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Professionally, Covid motivated me to create an offering/service for people to take time for their personal health and reduce their stress. Sometimes we need to disconnect in order to reconnect: Disconnecting from the fear and anxiety in order to reconnect to our best self and others. For a personal lesson, Covid reminded me of the importance of being outside in nature!

While everything was closed, it was refreshing to be able to explore the many trails of Greater Phoenix.
