Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Pahules.
Hi Laura, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story begins long before Control Alt Delete — in a childhood shaped by domestic violence. Growing up in an abusive home taught me, far too early, the fear, instability, and survival skills that come with living in constant danger. It also planted the earliest seeds of empathy for those trapped in similar situations, even if I didn’t realize it at the time.
Years later, I found myself in an abusive relationship as an adult, facing many of the same fears I had witnessed as a child. Escaping was not simple — there were countless invisible barriers, from financial control to lack of safe housing. When I finally got out, I understood just how much my safety had depended on timing, resources, and the kindness of others.
That realization became the foundation for Control Alt Delete. What started as helping one person escape at a time has grown into a 24/7 lifeline for Survivors — providing transportation, essentials, and safe passage when they need it most. Today, Control Alt Delete has helped thousands find safety, proving that with the right help at the right time, a different future is possible.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has been anything but smooth. In this work, the need is constant and urgent — but the funding doesn’t always arrive when it’s most needed. There have been moments where the phone is ringing with back-to-back escape requests, but the bank account is stretched to its limit. Turning someone away is not an option, yet the reality of operating a life-saving mission without guaranteed funding means I’ve had to get creative, resourceful, and at times, operate on sheer faith.
Another recent challenge has been seeing some advocates alter a client’s narrative to make it fit the scope of Control Alt Delete, even when the situation doesn’t meet our criteria for services. While I understand the desperation to get someone help, this can create dangerous complications — it undermines our vetting process, strains already limited resources, and risks delaying aid for those who are truly in immediate danger. Integrity in how stories are presented is vital, because every moment and every dollar we spend must go to those whose lives depend on it.
On top of that, the rise of rampant fraudulent requests has been a heartbreaking challenge. Every moment and every dollar matters, and vetting requests to ensure they are legitimate has become a critical — yet time-consuming — part of the work. For every false claim we filter out, that’s time we can redirect back to those in immediate, genuine danger.
These struggles are real, but they’ve also strengthened my resolve. Every hurdle reinforces the importance of protecting the integrity of Control Alt Delete’s mission and making sure we remain laser-focused on what we do best — saving lives while being the best steward of the financial support we receive.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Control Alt Delete LLC?
Control Alt Delete is a 24/7 crisis response organization specializing in one thing — getting Survivors of domestic violence out, safely, right now. We aren’t a shelter, a counseling service, or a hotline. Our focus is laser-specific: emergency escape assistance. That can mean transportation out of state, gas cards, bus tickets, hotel rooms, or even basic necessities like food and shoes — whatever it takes to remove someone from danger in the moment they decide to leave. We remove whatever barrier is keeping the Survivor trapped with their abuser.
What sets us apart is speed, discretion, and trust. We operate without red tape, without forcing Survivors to jump through hoops or wait for business hours. If a referral comes in at 2 a.m., we answer. If someone needs to escape in minutes, we are ready. And we protect confidentiality at all costs — our Survivors’ safety depends on it.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the fact that when people in this community hear “Control Alt Delete,” they immediately connect it to saving lives. The name reflects exactly what we do — giving Survivors the chance to restart their lives by breaking free from abuse.
I want readers to know that our work is only possible because of community support. Every escape is funded by donations, and every dollar directly impacts someone’s safety. There’s no fluff here — just urgent, life-saving action when it matters most with $1 of every single dollar donated going directly to helping Survivors escape their abuser.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
One of the most surprising things is that over 95% of the Survivors we help have no idea their assistance came from Control Alt Delete — and we’re perfectly fine with that. Our priority has never been recognition; it’s safety. Sometimes, knowing exactly where the help came from could compromise a Survivor’s security, especially if their abuser is searching for them. In other cases, anonymity simply allows them to focus fully on their escape and healing without feeling indebted or exposed.
We’ve built a model where the mission matters more than the credit. If someone is alive, safe, and free because of what we did, that’s the only acknowledgment we need.
