Exploring Life & Business with Kenyea Swindle of West Culinary Catering

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenyea Swindle.

Hi Kenyea, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story starts like most chefs I assume, in the kitchen with my mom when I was little. I always had a fascination with cooking and how you can mix all of these amazing things together and come up with a meal you still think about days later.

Growing up The Food Network Channel was like cartoons for me I would come home from school and immediately cut it on. The older I got my mom gave me more control in the kitchen and I was in heaven.

I took culinary arts all four years of high school, which only fueled my love more. By the time I graduated, I cooked all of the meals in our home, my mom never had to lift a finger in the kitchen again which she loved.

During the pandemic, everyone was home and starting passion projects just to get by so I decided to start posting cooking videos and food content on Instagram @WestCulinary, And quickly gained a following. I had always been told that my food was good but I never thought I’d have so many people trying to re-create my recipes.

After receiving over 11,000 views and 700 likes, I finally got the courage to start my next business. I am very new to the private chef/catering business but I am learning and loving every minute of it. Getting to be a part of someone experiencing an amazing meal has become one of my newest joys.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest obstacles I have faced along the way has probably been maneuvering through the pandemic and finding ways to do my job while staying safe.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about West Culinary Catering?
I have a private chef and catering business along with a food content social media page. I create beautiful homemade meals for families or events and Showcase the steps to master those recipes and other culinary skills on my Instagram.

I think the thing that sets me apart from all of the other people cooking on Instagram or private chefs offering their services is my very diverse background being Irish, Creole, and African-American along with growing up in a heavily Hispanic community I offer a wide variety of options and new creations.

I am most proud of the community that has been created because of my brand. Nothing brings people together like food, and my food page has garnered this beautiful community of people that all share a common love.

I want people to know that I am a native Phoenician and so is West Culinary. It is authentic, made out of love, and made for EVERYONE.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I see a rise in e-cookbooks And social media content creators being at the forefront of culinary arts.
