Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazzmin Yoshieko.
Hi Jazzmin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In a nutshell, I wasn’t ever dealt great cards from day one; like many people, I come from struggle, but in contrast, I’m here today writing this and at peace with so much in my life. At 32 years old, I think it’s important to share the hard parts and the realness of life besides simply highlighting the triumphs and milestones because it’s those hardships that taught me, shook me, molded me, and pushed me to want to do more and be more in this short lifetime I’ve got here.
I grew up in a single-dad home, mom was in prison until I was 8 years old, and that right there was the start of my life and the first set of obstacles I had to grow through and rise above. It took me a lot of time to really build a sense of confidence about myself and how to pursue life, but along the journey, I’ve done a lot of self-study and work to better understand the human mind and how our experiences shape us and how we turn pain into power to enable us to pursue life with a grateful mindset. I’ve always been in hustle mode, working multiple jobs. I even did the college thing and finished two degrees in Exercise Science with an Emphasis on Sports Performance as well as Psychology. I graduated with Honors grades on the Dean’s List the same year I started my business in 2018. I’m happy to share this because it was a very long adventure and I finished much later than planned as a brand-new single mother, but I’m glad I persevered and am able to utilize my education to build a community-driven business and brand.
With Ganja Flow’s 5 Year Anniversary this year, I can’t help but really take time to reflect on the growth of not only my business, but my beautiful daughter, and the community around me. It’s been such an honor and blessing to share my passion and knowledge of wellness and mental health through tools such as Yoga, Meditation, Fitness, and Plant Medicine. I’m also grateful to work full-time in the Cannabis Industry in marketing, sales, and public relations. Little 5-year-old Jazz would have never imagined doing what I do now for a living, but I know she’s proud.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Smooth sailing? Absolutely not (lol) because life isn’t ever going to be easy, but as I shared earlier, I started out on pretty choppy waters, so I think I have learned to be resilient over time and also thank God for all the tools (yoga, meditation, plant medicine, and prayer) for helping me cope and continue to push through the day to day challenges. Around 19 years old when I was in college in San Diego, is when I really made the decision to shift my mindset and start to really work on my own healing so I could eventually create something and pay it forward to the world that’s shaped me.
I’d say one of the biggest challenges I’ve had to face is learning all of the essentials that we aren’t generally taught in school, such as finances and wealth development, home ownership, and credit. Maybe not the answer expected, but that’s real because most of us struggle as we shift into adulthood, trying to find balance and figure it all out. As a single parent, it’s been tough, but I’m here today to tell all of you reading that you will rise above the struggle just keep going.
I’m really thankful to have mentors who are business owners and elders who have helped guide me and educate me on the proper resources to help me become self-sufficient and develop a mindset of abundance. It’s really all about mindset at the end of the day. A healthy mindset can truly accomplish so much…
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Flow?
Flow is known for our community sessions and brand “Ganja Flow.” We offer sessions in Phoenix and Tucson that incorporate Yoga, Meditation, and Plant Medicine with the emphasis on mental health awareness. We always say the yoga itself is optional because we want this to always be a safe space and comfortable for everybody to enjoy the good vibes and self-care.
Ganja Flow was a passion project for me because my story with Cannabis goes back to 1995, watching my Grandpa Fox pre-roll his joints for the next day in San Pedro, CA, and fast forward to 2017, helping my dad with Cannabis after near-death experiences get completely off prescription OxyContin, which he had been prescribed for more than 15 years after a broken back and spinal reconstructive surgery. I used to be against Cannabis until college when I discovered it as a medicine for my own severe migraines, anxiety, and lingering depression. It’s truly such a blessing that this plant is here on the earth for us…
The mission behind Ganja Flow is to bring tools to the community that effectively help them heal, grow, and thrive. Mental Health Awareness is at the heart of Ganja Flow. It’s really a movement, and I’m so humbled by how much of the community supports and has helped us make a real impact in people’s lives.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I really can’t speak on the future that much to be honest, but I feel like the niche of wellness and plant medicine will never really go anywhere. I feel like this work is truly us getting back to our roots and essentially helping us to live more abundant and peaceful lives.
Plant medicine itself is expanding so rapidly right now that I just hope states like Indiana and others who have not yet accepted Cannabis as medicine for their communities will make that necessary shift for the people. This shift saves lives, so I hope that through my work, I can advocate and educate in support of plant medicine, mental health, and quality living.
