Today we’d like to introduce you to Gary MacDermid. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Gary started his career by enlisting in the Navy right after graduating high school. During one of his initial Navy training classes, a Master Chief guest speaker explained the wealth generation strategy of purchasing a house at each duty station. It was this advice which led Gary to understand the true value of passive income after steadily purchasing multiple properties throughout the United States and Internationally.
Gary continued his career by receiving a scholarship where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and was commissioned as a Naval Officer.
After leaving the Navy, Gary continued as a licensed professional engineer leading design and analysis projects for several nuclear power plants before deciding to expand the passive income strategy that was previously a hobby.
This became the turning point where Gary made the transition from Electrical Engineer to Cash Flow Engineer by founding USA Private Equities where he is today.
Gary has also since became a motivational speaker after debuting in his own episode of an Amazon Prime TV series called SpeakUp. In this episode called Set Your Goals, or Someone Else Will, Gary shares his 5-step formula that he learned along his entrepreneurial journey that can be used to consistently set goals and make them a reality. Gary is also working to transform this episode into a book and is excited to share these experiences with others who may be in similar shoes.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I had a lot of challenges with mindset along the way. The biggest was the transformation from a scarcity mindset to one of abundance. As a kid I can remember being taught and asked to recite many rules about money from my father like these:
-Money doesn’t grow on trees
-There is no free lunch
-A penny saved is a penny earned
-Money is the root of all evil
Looking back, it was these rules that created a limiting belief system and constant fear around money. I often would turn down opportunities to avoid risk and play it safe.
As I grew older and got further in my career, I often thought about starting a business. However, this scarcity mindset that I inherited shut down any chance of it ever happening.
It was only when I started hanging out with people who were more successful that I realized the only difference was mindset. This new understanding was all it took to start the shift in belief around money and opportunity.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We specialize in investments that provide homeownership opportunities to people who want to own their own home but currently can’t because of credit or other reasons. While many others invest in real estate to generate a return for themselves, we are different in that we are trying to make an impact with people who never thought they could own their own home while also providing great rates of return to our capital partners.
Now I work to inspire others to set goals, and am co producing an upcoming documentary called “The Secret of Happiness” and will be hosting entrepreneurial events here in Arizona with a group we are calling Business Minds Unite to provide all of the key resources (marketing, accounting/finance, sales, raising capital, etc) in one place to help business owners.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
It’s hard to say favorite but perhaps the most defining moment was in January of my Senior year in HS when my father woke me up one morning and said “Son I have some bad news, there is no money for college, but don’t worry, I have a plan.” He then took me to the military recruiting station and told me “You have Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force, take your pick. I recommend Navy so you can see the world.”
That memory put me down a path I had never before dreamed of.
