Exploring Life & Business with Craig Amrine of Mobile Acupuncture of Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Craig Amrine.

Craig, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My career began as a research engineer for various companies including Toshiba, Pacific Northwest Labs, and Motorola. After 16 years and 19 patents, I decided to change direction and focus on my passions involving health and fitness. I went back to school and spent 5 years to get a Masters in Acupuncture from Phoenix Institute of Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture in 2008. Soon after I became a full-time acupuncturist and started a clinic called Hidden Rhythm Acupuncture. I also became an adjunct professor at Sonoran University of Medical Science beginning in 2011. The transition from corporate life to running my own business was not easy at first. Fortunately, I was also a Yoga teacher for 16 years as well as a professional skydiver at Skydive Arizona where I continue to work part time on the weekends.

As my business grew I expanded my practice to offer acupuncture at Skydive Arizona with Toltec Wellness Center after I was done skydiving for the day. I also became a contracted provider with VA where I proudly serve our nation’s military veteran community. While I was growing my practice at my clinic in Tempe and at Skydive Arizona, I recognized a need where patients were looking for treatment at their home; whether simply looking for the privacy and convenience of home treatments or scenarios where they are lacking the ability to travel to my clinic.

I expanded my business in 2018 to offer Mobile Acupuncture services. I offer acupuncture, cold laser / red light therapy / and cupping therapy on location to both private homes and care facilities. My mobile practice has recently expanded to include cancer care centers, and world-renowned addiction treatment centers. Upon request, I also bring my therapy dog named Piper who is a 5 year old Hungarian Vizsla

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The transition has not always been easy. Coming from the corporate engineering world, I was accustomed to a steady paycheck, bonuses, corporate sponsored travel and paid vacations. Running my own business meant working “without a net”. Fortunately I was blessed to be involved with several communities including the skydiving community, the martial arts and MMA fighter community, my yoga students, and salsa dance crowd. As a result I was able to reach out to these groups to find new patients.

So much about our business relies on education. Not everybody understands the capabilities of acupuncture and low-level laser therapy. My first several years involved creating content and articles explaining how these tools can effectively treat a wide variety of conditions. With modern research techniques, a greater understanding of the underlying mechanisms in how acupuncture works is also emerging…. which I find fascinating.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Mobile Acupuncture of Scottsdale?
While I have a practicing clinic in Tempe called Hidden Rhythm Acupuncture, my mobile in-home business is called Mobile Acupuncture of Scottsdale. With my many years of experience, I’ve had the opportunity to treat a wide range medical conditions. With my own experience as a martial arts instructor and fighter, yoga teacher, and professional skydiver, I’ve spent several years working with professional athletes to deal with sports injuries and to work towards improving athletic performance. I’ve also worked in treating the emotional challenges that come with training and competing at the highest level. I’ve discovered that combining acupuncture and laser (red-light) therapy can provide athletes an incredibly powerful combination to accelerate repair of injuries. With my background as a research engineer, my understanding of laser therapy is probably the most extensive in the Phoenix area.

I’m one of the very few fully licensed acupuncturists who provides a mobile service. My territory includes the entire Scottsdale and Phoenix area. With over 17 years experience, I am proud to provide a comprehensive service that includes acupuncture, laser therapy, and cupping therapy. I’m also the only acupuncturist that offers therapy dog service upon request.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
With a diverse background in engineering, fitness, competitive sports, and professor of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, I feel that I have the ability to address the needs of a wide variety of patients. My background in teaching allows me to effectively communicate with my patients better than most. I am committed to educate my patients on concepts of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Fitness, and Nutrition.
