Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Willis
Hi Christina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always been a very spiritual person, so my story starts the day I was born. I was raised in a Christian family and am the granddaughter of a minister. I grew up going to church every Sunday, feeling the Holy Spirit, and reading the Bible with my family every night before bed. I was very devoted to my walk with Christ until 2019 when I started getting curious about some of the teachings I had received in church. As I began to explore many of things I had been taught were bad or “against God,” I realized that it wasn’t all true and left the church.
Then in 2020, my good friend and classmate at ASU, Isis, introduced me to a Sidereal astrologer who was gaining a lot of popularity on Twitter at the time. I fell in love with their work and approach to astrology, and at that point I had never heard of Sidereal. I was going through my first break up, which like many others had led me to a spiritual awakening. I was researching crystals, chakras, Hoodoo and other occult spiritual practices so this astrologer came right on time for me. In 2022 I started Astralotea, my online astrology consultation service where I give readings and also make regular articles and videos about astrology. The first thing I ever posted was on Youtube, but now most of my content lives on Substack, Instagram, and Tiktok. Last year I realized I had outgrown my teacher and stopped studying under them. I now mostly practice and research Vedic astrology and ancient Kemetic or Egyptian astrology.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road! I got seriously into astrology soon after the pandemic started, so much of my journey has been colored and shaped by the collective and ongoing trauma of that time. It’s been hard to research the types of astrology I’m into as most astrological resources in the United States are rooted in the European Hellenistic tradition or the Indian Vedic tradition. Resources on African based practices are harder to find or are behind a very expensive paywall. In general, astrology is something the majority of the “western” world still sees as fake or a pseudoscience. So it can be hard to build a career on something that most people don’t believe in or even think is straight up evil! I’ve had family members tell me I’m doing the devil’s work, and I’ve had classmates laugh at me or not take me seriously because I believe in astrology. Thankfully as of today, most of my family has come around and are some of my biggest supporters.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Astralotea?
Astralotea is more than just an astrology space. It is a spiritual liberation space. The mission of Astralotea is to make the practice of astrology accessible for the masses so that we can use this ancient tool to better our lives. I currently specialize in Ancestral Sidereal astrology. My research and integration of pre-colonial African astrological practices has recently become very important and foundational in the unique astrological framework I am building and remembering. I believe that if we can remember how our first ancestors worked with the stars, we can return to a more harmonious relationship with the universe, our health, and our destiny. I’m most known for the Sidereal part of my practice. There are several different types of zodiacs. The Tropical zodiac is the one we are most familiar with in the west. The Sidereal zodiac, which is the one I use, was created in ancient Africa before Tropical and is most commonly used today in Vedic or Indian astrology. Currently, these two zodiacs are about 24 degrees apart from each other. So if you believe you are a Cancer Sun, you will most likely be a Gemini Sun in Sidereal. I personally have found the Sidereal zodiac to be more accurate when it comes to making predictions about the future and describing the childhoods and current adulthoods of my clients.
I think my commitment to reviving ancient African astrological wisdom is what sets me apart the most from other astrologers. Right now “pop astrology” is what most people are familiar with. My content is far from pop astrology. I focus more on the technical and practical aspects of astrology, like how to use it to plan your finances, find the perfect career, work through emotional trauma, manage relational conflicts, and even heal physical ailments. My long term goal is to become a medical astrologer (which will take years of study) and help people heal their ailments. I am most proud of the diverse knowledge of astrology that my brand provides to the public. I write about the astrological practices of several different cultures and I have been very consistent with posting regular forecasts and horoscopes. I am also very proud of how I have been able to bring to light some of the more recent famous African American astrologers through my educational Tiktoks and articles. When people come to book a reading with me or read through my blog on Substack, they should be confident that they will receive the truth with love and care. They should expect to leave feeling empowered and more comfortable in their autonomy.
How do you think about luck?
This is such a wonderful question. I have been EXTREMELY lucky! The first major stroke of luck I hit was last November when I was hired on as the “In-House Astrologer” for the Womb Room. I have been a student in this space since fall 2021 and plan to continue my studies through the Medicine Woman track. My second big stroke of luck happened at the beginning of this year in February. I posted a Tiktok about the famous African American astrologer, James Black. He is best known for giving astrological consults that played a critical role in propelling the band Earth, Wind, and Fire into stardom. That Tiktok is currently sitting at over 87,000 views. Since then, an amazing app called MoonMoons reached out to me to be one of their first 30 practitioners. The app’s goal is to connect spiritual practitioners to clients seeking healing all across the globe.
I also totally lucked out with my supportive family and friends. My parents, Rhonda and Eric, offer me a lot of financial and moral support as I continue to build my business and grow in my craft. My younger sister, Nicole, is always recommending me to her friends and coworkers, validates my skill set constantly, and cooks meals for me regularly. My aunt Renee and my cousins Danielle and Babette have bought readings and supported me at the metaphysical shop I work at. And my friends Kat, Cofey, Angelica, and Imani have bought readings from me, always encourage me to remain consistent, and let me know whenever my predictions really resonate and pan out for them. I honestly don’t know what I would do without any of these wonderful people in my life who love and support me so much!
