Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Harshe.
Hi Brandon, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My wife, January, initially tried to talk me into going to chiropractic school with her and my response was, “No way, that’s too hard, I can’t do that.” A couple months later my wife revealed she was pregnant with our first child and one of my first thoughts was, “Well, time to re-think that chiropractic thing.”
Truth be told, I feel like I was born to be a chiropractor. I’ve always eaten a healthy diet, exercised a lot, and gravitated toward the holistic side of health care, so being a chiropractor made perfect sense for me. I’ve been a chiropractor for 15 years, and it has been quite a journey. I practiced most of my career in Texas before my family and I moved back home to Arizona in 2018, where I’ve been practicing for about six years now.
It took a long time to get to this point, but I’m having the most fun of my entire career. The experience that we gain over the years is invaluable, and 10 years ago I could never have imagined I could help people on the level that I can help them now. Which is exciting to think about because I sometimes wonder how much better I will be at helping people 10 years from now, 20 years from now, etc.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it certainly has not been a smooth road by any means. I graduated in 2009, and didn’t get my first associate chiropractor job until 2010. That lasted only four months before it was back to the drawing board of starting my own practice. I was broke, working a second overnight job in Dallas, and barely able to make ends meet for two years after graduating chiropractic school before an opportunity for success unexpectedly fell in my lap. That opportunity took us to Childress, TX, a tiny little town in the panhandle where I became the town chiropractor for several years. I sold that practice several years later and started a new practice in the Austin, TX area. My dad unexpectedly passed away the week I had planned on opening up shop. My grief never allowed me to make that office work, and I closed my doors 6 months later. Thankfully, my wife’s career was going fantastic at the time and I had the freedom to do that. But my dad’s death sent me into a mental health spiral that lasted 7-8 years total and really interfered with my focus as a chiropractor. Despite that, we moved back to Arizona, Maricopa specifically, and I opened up shop here. I eventually managed to move past the grief of losing my dad and began to thrive as a chiropractor out here in the desert.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Harshe Chiropractic?
I have a very specific approach to chiropractic that focuses on proper alignment of the spine which in turn allows the body to function at its optimal best. I also do a lot of work on extremities, specifically shoulders, ankles, feet, and elbows to name a few.
My approach to chiropractic is that if you have a spine and you need my help, I will absolutely help you. I treat everyone as a person, not a dollar sign, and my patients know they can count on the very best service when they enter my office. I’m also very easily accessible through text, and if I’m in the office, I will squeeze in anybody who needs an adjustment… doesn’t matter if I have to stay later or come in earlier, or pack my schedule tighter. One way or another, I will give everyone the opportunity to come in and get the help they need.
Chiropractic isn’t just my career, it’s a way of life for me and my family. It has kept all of us very healthy for many, many years. So, being able to share a portion of my life with people and have the opportunity to earn an income from it is an unbelievable opportunity that I’m grateful for every day.
What matters most to you? Why?
My wife and six kids matter most to me. They are the reasons I became a chiropractor, and they are the reasons I keep practicing chiropractic. My wife and I have been together since we were 19, and she’s been by my side supporting me throughout all my various trials and mental health challenges for the past 27 years. She is the most loyal and kindhearted person I have ever met, and she is my rock. She makes my life better in every way imaginable. And my kids are awesome. They are all very creative and strong and athletic and hard working, and it is fun to watch them grow up into truly incredible human beings. It hasn’t been easy raising six kids (that’s a lot of kids), but they are truly good people who force me to constantly keep improving and be at my best. Because if I’m not, none of them have a problem with calling me out!
Jiu jitsu matters to me quite a bit as well. It has been the most fun I’ve ever had with anything fitness related, and I am in the best shape of my life at 46 years old because of it. There is nothing quite like it. And even though the physical benefits of jiu jitsu are obvious, I would say the mental benefits are the main reason I train. It doesn’t matter how I feel, how my day has gone, what sort of problems I have to deal with, every time I finish a training session I’m grateful I trained and all my problems seem a little less problematic and life feels a little bit smoother. My kids and I like to compete at jiu jitsu tournaments throughout the year as well, so that really scratches the competitive itch we all have. Not to mention, I don’t have to sit on the sidelines at my kids’ practice like I would with other sports… I can literally train side by side with my kids and I love that aspect of it!
