Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Day.
Ashley, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Being a business owner has always been a dream of mine. I was lucky enough to be able to watch my dad go through the process of starting his own business as I grew up and it sparked an interest in me! I am a very creative person by nature, and I knew I needed to have the ability to allow that part of me to lead in my career.
Like many people, I used the pandemic as a time to further my education about what it would take to start up an online boutique, and then a few months later I opened Wandering Lotus! I am currently enrolled in university and studying marketing, and I am so excited to see what new skills I can add to my toolbox.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My dad always emphasized that anything worth having will take hard work. This is definitely something that can be applied to the business world. Time management has been the most difficult obstacle to overcome, as I am a full-time student!
We’ve been impressed with Wandering Lotus, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Wandering Lotus began because of my passion for fashion and sustainability. The fast-fashion industry produces about 92 million tons of waste every year, which is one of the top contributors to greenhouse gas emissions. My goal for Wandering Lotus is to create a wardrobe that is sustainable and can outlast the trends and changes in the fashion industry.
I’m a huge proponent of supporting small businesses, and the beautiful thing about Wandering Lotus is that we find vendors and manufacturers from around the world (with the same values as us) and partner with them. When you buy something from Wandering Lotus, not only are you supporting me and my dreams but also the dreams of a family somewhere else.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love our city’s road system! I’ve spent a lot of time in Flagstaff this year, and I am so grateful for how our streets are set up.
The thing I like the least about this city is probably the heat. I’m very excited that the weather is starting to change, but the summer months are quite unbearable at times.
