Exploring Life & Business with Angela & Diana Polynin & Mot of Vets and Pets Yoga

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela & Diana Polynin & Mot

Hi Angela & Diana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Vets and Pets Yoga was born from a simple yet powerful idea: to merge the healing power of yoga with the unconditional love of animals, creating a safe and supportive space for veterans. Many veterans can feel uncertain or uncomfortable in traditional yoga settings, so we aimed to make the practice more accessible and uplifting by including animals at some of our classes/events. By incorporating pets into our program we have created a dual purpose initiative, supporting veterans while giving animals in need a second chance.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a new nonprofit was challenging. One of the major challenges we faced as founders is the lack of funding. Securing enough financial support to cover operational costs, outreach, and programs can feel like a constant uphill battle. As a new nonprofit, we rely on donations and fundraising events. As most grants are awarded to nonprofits that have been established for 3 years or more.

Compounding this challenge is the limited number of volunteers available to help carry out the mission. Both of the founders currently work full-time jobs, the time and energy available to recruit, train, and engage volunteers is stretched thin. It can be discouraging when you’re trying to build momentum but find that the help you need is in short supply.

Despite the obstacles, we are so proud of the work we are doing—connecting veterans who may need support with the unconditional love of pets, a truly life-changing combination. Although the progress might feel slow, we know the impact we are making is invaluable, and every step forward brings us closer to creating something meaningful.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Vets and Pets Yoga is a 501c3 nonprofit organization offering free yoga to veterans. Our mission goes beyond yoga as we also pair veterans with emotional support animals at no cost to them. We aim to create a supportive environment for veterans who may feel uneasy about a traditional yoga setting. We are focused on creating a community where everyone can feel safe, accepted and seen. Especially those who may be dealing with trauma.
We integrate Mindful Resilience Training (MRT) in our free veteran yoga classes. This approach can help build resilience and gives individuals tools to help combat challenges like PTS(D), anxiety and depression.

What makes you happy?
PUPPIES!! As animal lovers, we’re beyond excited to include pets in our program. At Vets and Pets Yoga, we’re all deeply passionate about helping animals in need. Seeing the positive impact pets can have on veterans and knowing we’re making a difference in both their lives and the lives of animals is truly what brings us joy!
