Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Dutcher.
Hi Aaron, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I started my real estate career in Jan. of 2000. I started at a property management company leasing houses throughout the Phoenix valley. That company boomed as it grew into more of an investment company and I eventually became a partner. We managed over 3600 units in AZ and we were buying and selling 100s of homes each month. It was an amazing company with wonderful people until the housing crash of 2008. We shifted into doing short sales, foreclosure auctions, and working with Canadian investors to weather the storm. We did great but the property management suffered as more and more owners foreclosed on their properties. The partnership at the property management company eventually broke apart and I went off to do my own fix and flips with a new partner.
This was a great time, with no employees, no clients, just flipping and wholesaling houses. We eventually started our own construction company to take out the middle man on the rehab. We started a restoration company shortly after this as well. As the market continued to correct and stabilize the flips got tighter and tighter. My partner at this time decided to focus more on the residential and construction side of real estate while I turned my focus to commercial real estate. In 2016 I committed to full-time commercial real estate and focused on being a liaison for residential agents and their commercial clients. Since then it’s been nonstop. Now I own and direct MHG Commercial brokered by My Home Group. We handle every type of commercial transaction from land and development to office leases, asset purchases, industrial, and everything in between and around.
I am a 5th generation Arizona native and Among my many talents I m a Mr. Fix-it, savvy, not afraid of public speaking, revel in fitness challenges, love snow skiing, surfing, cowboy hat Friday, motorsports, and travel adventures. I am a private pilot and nost of all, I love my family and trips to our cabin in northern AZ. My greatest joy in life is residing in Gilbert with my wife Randa, we have 5 children ages 10 to 21, two dogs one german shepherd and one mini golden doodle, 2 horses and 31 chickens.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Anything but smooth. I have had to adjust and reinvent and regroup over and over again. To play in this market for 23 years you have to. The market constantly shifts and changes and if you do figure out how to move and shift with it your career will die. The housing boom required a shift and of course, the great recession required an even bigger one.
Then learning how to short sale and do foreclosure auctions. Then moving into construction and then commercial all took time, effort, and fortitude to press forward. Learn new skills and knowledge and then put it to work. Then you have to manage the ebb and flow of making millions and losing millions. It is a crazy rollercoaster but it’s been a lot of fun with those ups and downs. You definitely learn more in the downs.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
MHG Commercial is like the mischievous child in the classroom of commercial real estate in Arizona – always causing a stir and making things happen. With its team of dynamic and daring professionals, it takes on the toughest real estate challenges and comes out on top every time. Whether it’s leasing a retail space, managing a multi-family residential building, or finding the perfect location for a new business, MHG Commercial is always up for the task.
And with its commitment to making real estate fun, it’s like a breath of fresh air in the otherwise stodgy world of commercial real estate. So if you’re looking for a real estate partner who isn’t afraid to get a little wild and crazy, look no further than MHG Commercial!
That’s our little synopsis and it’s funny but has a lot of truth. We aren’t a normal commercial brokerage but we are special because of that. We have an absolutely fun and exciting culture and any agent can do any type of commercial transaction they want. They aren’t pigeon holes into one type or use. It’s quit amazing to watch them take o. New challenges and grow into the deal all while giving the client individualized attention. Plus our agents get better commission splits then anywhere else.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was out going, mischievous, charismatic, and focused on sports, horses, cars, and architecture. I was planning to be an architect until a college eep came to our school and told us the job market was flooded with architects. So I shifter to engineering, structural engineering. By the time I finished high school, I had all of my college drafting, geometry, and calculus completed. I took a break after high school and served a 2-year religious mission in Canada. Then entered back into college.
I was well on my way to being an engineer when I stopped and dropped out of college. I was an intern at a truss engineering firm and was knocking it out of the park when the idea of being locked in a cube all day and meeting the status quo became mind-numbing and I decided engineering was no longer for me. That is when I ran into an old friend from my home town and he told me about the property management company he started and asked me to come leases houses for him.
