Exploring Life & Business with Alison Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alison Jones.

Hi Alison, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born & raised in Orange County, CA. I chose the University of Arizona for college for many reasons and loved it! I was in the Eller School of Business initially as a Marketing major. I decided to switch to an Accounting after I got a 100% grade in a preliminary accounting class. I figured, hey maybe this is what I should do! Growing up around entrepreneurial parents and having the personality that I do; I have always wanted to own my own business. I chose accounting as my major in college so I could audit companies to learn the best way to run a business and then start my own. I met my husband in college and since he is originally from Scottsdale he wanted to move back to the Phoenix/Scottsdale area.

After college, I got a job at a CPA firm & quickly learned it wasn’t what I thought it would be. I loved the firm and the people I worked with but the accounting career wasn’t the same as it was in college. I shared with my parents I wanted to start my own company but wanted to stick it out at the accounting firm for at least a year. During that year my dad was in a golf tournament and was paired up with a State Farm agent. This agent, who ended up being my future boss and mentor, shared with my dad the State Farm Agent Aspirant Program. After a few conversations with this agent I knew this would be a great path for me. I learned this agent was one of the best and knew he was the right one to learn from. I ended up working for him for 5.5 years under this program. I was able to learn all the ins and outs of the business. I was able to develop business process and really develop a love for the industry. I love helping people and developing those lasting relationships. I realized not only this is what I want to do, it’s what I was made to do. To not only benefit me but more importantly the people I touch from employees to customers, and the impact I can make. Now here I am a State Farm agent with an AMAZING team ready to take on the world!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It wasn’t smooth but it wasn’t hard. Anything very rewarding in life puts you out of your comfort zone and pushes you! There is a quote that I used to think about to help me see the bigger picture. “The willingness to postpone immediate gratification in favor of the long-term gain.” I used to get job offers for other sales roles or careers often that would have had me making a lot more money initially but wasn’t aligned with what I wanted. I work a lot. I’m better but am still really trying to learn that balance.

We’ve been impressed with Alison Jones State Farm Agency, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Alison Jones State Farm Agency we specialize in all thing’s insurance. We provide auto, home, life, annuities health and business insurance. We are not just another insurance branch. My team and I make the experience unique and exciting! We specialize in being your risk advisor. My office goes over and above to make sure every customer gets a chance to choose. We educate our customers on what is at risk. I can’t even count on my hand the amount of times customer say “I have never heard that before” or “this is the most through review I have ever had in my life.” Those are what drive our office. Our passion for people and relationships!

What does success mean to you?
Success isn’t something you accomplish only a few times. I felt successful even when the business wasn’t making money but we were making an impact in people’s lives and our own lives. I feel the most success when my family and employees feel fulfilled.
