We’re looking forward to introducing you to Donna May. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Donna, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I’m most proud of the trust I’ve built with clients over 45 years. Many people only see the finished tax return or financial plan, but behind the scenes there’s a lifetime of systems, learning, and care that ensures everything is accurate and dependable.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Donna May and my business is DMTAXBS where we serve Trusts, Individuals, Corporations and Partnerships, Non-Profits with Tax Preparation, Financial Advising including consulting new businesses and Bookkeeping. For the last two years, I have been voted top three in best of Cochise County for Financial Advisors.
Taxes are a stressor for everyone, that’s the negative. I take that negative and turn it into a positive. When clients come to my office, I want them to have a good experience. I do my best to remove the stress and make it more relaxing. You can watch TV, enjoy some candy, chit chat, or simply look out the window. I love greeting my clients with a smile and saying, ‘It’s great to see you again! What exciting things have you been doing since we last saw each other?’ For me, it’s about more than numbers it is creating a comfortable, welcoming space where people feel cared for.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
My grandparents gave me my strong work ethics. I was taught to always give more, because it will come back to you. Never arrive late for an appointment, if you’re not at least 15 minutes early, you’re already late. And always smile; it makes people wonder what you’re thinking and how you might respond. I’ve found that a smile can open more doors than anything. That mindset has guided me throughout my career, and it’s why I always greet clients with warmth and positivity.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Listen to everything your grandparents tell you because it will help you always. If you listen to them and use what they are telling you, you will never go wrong.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
You get what you see when you see or talk to Donna May. Whether you are talking to me while I am in Tombstone and in my 1880 attire play acting in the streets or dressed in my business attire in town or even still in jeans or shorts running house hold errands. YOU GET THE REAL ME! I can’t be anything but me. My son will tell you I have never meet a stranger as I will talk to everyone and will try to fix what ever issue they share with me.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I only had 10 years left, I would stop watching what I eat. I’d go back to my biscuits and gravy, fried potatoes with onion, bacon, and over-easy eggs, just the way my grandmother taught me to cook. Food, like finances, is part of life’s traditions, and those simple joys remind me of what really matters: family, community, and enjoying the time we have.
