Today we’d like to introduce you to V. Alexandra de F. Szoenyi.
Hi Alexandra, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a professional writer, published poet, and library assistant based in Chandler, Arizona, and from San Francisco, California. I studied both journalism and fashion, and have used both in my professional career. My written work has focused on various topics, but mostly Latinx culture, pop culture, and San Francisco history.
I am currently branching out from article writing to focus more on poetry, fiction writing, and essay writing. My calling is to filter life through words and share that with others.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life is never a smooth road. It takes a lot of trial and error, and pivoting, to find your specific calling, and what makes you happy.
That’s why it’s important to go after what you want in your career so you can discover if it’s really what you want to be doing. And, even if you’re in the correct field, you will find that you often have to fine-tune things to your strengths and talent and what you would be the best at.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a writer. That’s how I share what I find with readers, how I connect with others, and how I express myself, and it’s what I’m truly good at.
I have done everything from journalism to copywriting to poetry; I am most known for my articles on Latinx culture (especially pop culture), and my work on San Francisco history. I am proud of sharing things that haven’t been written elsewhere, and helping people feel connected to, and educated on, their culture(s).
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I feel my intuition and empathy are essential to my success.
It keeps me connected to what others may want–or need–to read, what messages I feel called to share, and what narratives have to be shared with others (which really is all narratives!). Also, my ability to fall down rabbit holes of research has served me well since it’s helped me uncover cool story ideas!
