Today we’d like to introduce you to Terri Attridge.
Hi, Terri. Having you on the platform is an honor. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I picked up a book called “Delaying the Real World” 15 years ago. There was a section about jobs in national parks, and I applied to work at Grand Canyon. At first, moving from New Jersey to Arizona was a hard switch. I missed museums and would come to Phoenix frequently for art and music. I’d worked in a photography studio for 7 years before I left and also started my own business, shooting weddings in film! I moved away from film, and I can’t believe it’s hip, and I’m back to it again. I started shooting engagement proposals at the Grand Canyon in my early days living there and became known as the local Grand Canyon photographer. I later became the photographer for the Grand Canyon Conservancy, and for over 5 years, I was lucky to photograph some of the most fantastic park projects. My connection to the Grand Canyon deepens over time, and I am happy to be a proposal and elopement portrait photographer there but all over the state. I’ve shot elopements in Sedona, Bartlet Lake, Saguaro National Park, the Dragoon Mountains/ Cochise Stronghold, and Tombstone, Arizona.
Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Some of the biggest obstacles have been working remotely in our national parks and public lands. Obstacles come in the form of permitting, fees, and connectivity. Leave No Trace is at the forefront of all that I do. This means not having large floral arches or amplified sounds, flowers scattered, or chairs set up. Providing an authentic and meaningful experience that doesn’t impact the public land can sometimes be challenging.
I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am in the business of photographing moments and helping plan them. What could you want any more than being fully present? How would you like to let time stand still and enjoy the excitement, to have no cares except the feeling of this moment you can never get back? This is the experience that I want to provide. I want to photograph real organic moments, but I want to do the heavy lifting. Hence, your proposal or elopement is just you in the magic of that moment without worrying about anything.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
- The good: I love the access to the airport, vendors, hair and makeup, flowers, officiants, transportation, great food, museums, art, movies, music, and culture.
- The bad is the distance to the Grand Canyon.
