Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamee Niekamp.
Hi Tamee, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My daughter was involved with theatre since the age of 4 and I would always help behind the scenes until 10 years ago I decided to start my own theatre company, One Stage Family Theatre. We cast all who audition for our Junior musicals and for our Mainstage performances we welcome families and offer a safe and fun place to perform. We are a woman owned business that really saw a need to bring a company to town that was all inclusive.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There is always going to be a few struggles here and there but I must say we have been blessed. Once you figure out what works and what doesn’t for your company be prepared for it to change. We are blessed to have a supportive venue and we always have terrific audience participation. The only thing that is a bit of a struggle might be we would love our own theatre to perform in. Building sets in a day or two can be done, but would be easier if we rehearse on the stage we perform on. Here we are ten years later and it all works out, every single time.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As the founder and producer of all of our theatre performances I am most proud to watch the performances and growth of the actors on stage. We work with children and adults and to see their confidence and all of their hard work pay off is a wonderful thing to be a part of.
We specialize in inclusiveness and building a second family in a sense for our actors. We are proud of our accomplishments and especially our support in the community. We recently won Best Non-Profit in Yavapai County. What a great accomplishment.
What sets us apart is we truly are a family and we accept all where they are at. We all enjoy what we do and when you see our casts in costumes on the stage with the set it is something you will never forget. Being part of the greater picture for our youth and adults alike is pivitol.
What are your plans for the future?
We would love a big storage unit and a theatre of our own. To have all of our costumes and set pieces in one place would be great. Although, the ambiance of our venue now makes the play going experience one of a kind.
We hope to continue to grow and develop a mentorship program for our youth. That is something we are working on now and will continue to thrive and include those who have sponsored us in one way or another over the years.
