Daily Inspiration: Meet Slow Drawl

Today we’d like to introduce you to Slow Drawl

Hi Slow, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Slow Drawl was formed in the fall of 2023 by guitarist and vocalist Kyle DeHart. After a series of auditions, Austin DiMaria joined as bassist and secondary vocalist, while Ben Sandoval joined on drums. We collaborated on a four-track EP titled Pile of Bones, which was released on April 25, 2024. That same week, we played our debut gig at the Palo Verde Lounge and have played nearly a dozen concerts around the valley since. Now, we’re preparing to record our follow-up EP and are building the groundwork for gigs and festivals across the West in 2025.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
So far, everything has gone quite smoothly for us! We bonded almost immediately over the music, and we’ve become close friends since. We have a lot of similar niche interests, which helped us build a bond outside of music. We play to each other’s strengths while also being aware of our own flaws, which I believe is an essential component of a healthy band relationship. We butt heads on ideas sometimes, but I think our ability to compromise and collaborate makes those moments rare and easy to work past.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We are a 3 piece sludge rock group from Phoenix, AZ. Our sound is a fusion of our favorite genres: psych rock, punk, and classic country. With experience on both sides of the glass, we’re also seasoned audio engineers. Ben took the reins as the producer, crafting our entire record in his home studio. Meanwhile, Austin & Kyle cut their teeth in recording studios in Nashville before returning to Phoenix, where they continue to work in live performances & events. We consider ourselves first and foremost a live band, and we attempt to capture that raw energy on our records. Our stage presence is just as important as our musical performance in order to provide an electrifying experience for our audience. We don’t take ourselves too seriously. We simply bring a psychedelic night of rock and roll.
