Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheri Rose.
Hi Sheri, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started attending Jazzercise classes at a local facility near me after having my second child in 1990. It was love at first class! I made friends and couldn’t wait to get to class each day for the fun workout. As the years went on and naturally things changed, my local facility moved-then closed, I branched out to try other workouts. I found that I was never as consistent as when I was with Jazzercise. I searched out a new facility that was not close for me, but it was worth the drive! I even began searching out facilities when I traveled, taking classes everywhere I went. There is just this feeling that you get when you belong to this community that is like no other! I had been approached many times throughout the years about becoming an instructor. I was always quite flattered but respectfully said oh no. I was a very busy mom, wife, hairstylist and salon owner. Jazzercise was my time to unwind and not be in charge of anything or anyone else for that one hour of heart-pumping music and booty shakin’ moves.
Jazzercise remained a big part of my daily life over the coming years. I developed lifelong friendships and continued to stay in great shape both mentally and physically.
Jazzercise is not a fad workout program, it is a lifestyle! It has, despite what people may think of the name “Jazzercise”, with stood the test of time, combining cardio, strength and stretch formats. I did finally say yes to becoming a certified instructor six years ago and then opened a studio here in Scottsdale Arizona two years ago. I feel as if it’s my opportunity to give back to a community that has had such a positive impact on my life.
Jazzercise is a family-owned business that is now three generations all in! I look forward to maintaining this program in our community and introducing this lifestyle to new generations to come.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The timing of opening my Studio was, well let’s just say…unfortunate. It was a fast and furious first six months, then the pandemic hit. Struggles? You bet! However, with a never give up attitude and realizing how important the continuation of this program would become for so many people during a difficult time, I got to work! I learned so much along the way, pivoting quickly to offer livestream classes, outdoor classes, and limited capacity classes. We never gave up and we never stopped “working it out” together!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I love making people feel beautiful inside and out. I have been in the beauty industry my entire life and there is nothing that makes my heart happier than seeing the way people feel after a great service. It is a feel good kind of job for sure! I’ve spent much of my career in training. I love learning and I absolutely love sharing what I’ve learned with others. I have had many amazing mentors in my life and I have equally enjoyed being a mentor to others. This has been the same for me as a fitness instructor, creating that feel good from the inside!
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I was extremely shy for many, many years! I have had to work very hard at getting out of my own way, pushing myself out of my comfort zone.
