Today we’d like to introduce you to Sammayah Muhammad
Hi Sammayah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my content creation journey right after high school back in 2014. I started off making beauty related videos on YouTube and did that for a couple years. After a few years, makeup wasn’t something I was passionate about anymore and I stopped posting videos. In the summer of 2023, I was on summer break from my job and decided to jump back into content creation again. At the time, I was already on TikTok but I did not post consistently. Since I wasn’t working over the summer, I had a lot of free time. I decided that this was the perfect time to take TikTok more seriously and I started posting again.
I created and posted content almost every day of the summer starting in June and by August, I had reached 1,000 followers. Ever since then, the rest is history! My TikTok has absolutely been thriving! The content I create focuses on three different niches that include skin care, fashion, and lifestyle videos. I also just created a new TikTok to showcase my newly found hobby, junk journaling.
TikTok has opened so many doors for me and has given me opportunities that I could only dreamt of. My content creator journey has allowed me to work with numerous brands doing paid collabs, brand deals, and receiving PR packages. I can’t wait to see where my journey takes me this year!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My two biggest challenges has been staying consistent and not getting discouraged from lack of support. When it comes to consistency, it is so easy to fall off. At the end of the day, you still have to live and keep up with your personal life responsibilities outside of social media. Sometimes life gets in the way and you can’t post or film the way you want to. There has been times where I don’t post for days at a time and it can make you feel like you’re a failure. I always have to remind myself that breaks are needed and social media will always be there. Over time, I have learned that I can better manage being consistent by filming and planing ahead but most importantly, repurposing my content. This has helped me so much with content creating.
The next challenge I faced is when I started making content; I just knew that I would have the biggest support system from the people that I knew personally, but I was completely wrong. This was very discouraging for me. As my channel grew, I learned to focus on who is rather than who isn’t! The love and support that I get from complete strangers 100% make up for it. While I do get support from some people that I know, it’s just a very awkward situation to be in when you know that people constantly watch your videos, but don’t support you in anyway. Once brands started reaching out and wanting to work with me, my mindset changed! It was like “hey, you might not be supporting me, but these brands see me and want to support me”. Now, in my content creator journey, I no longer get tied up with the negatives and focus solely on the positives!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a content creator and I make skin care, fashion and lifestyle videos on TikTok and Instagram. I am most proud of myself for not giving up. It is so easy to get discouraged because you aren’t see the results you want. “Rome wasn’t build in day” and “consistency is key” is something I always keep in the back of my mind. As long as I show up every day and give it my all, I am completely at peace!
