Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosanna Lantigua.
Hi Rosanna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I first started working as a nurse back in 2008. I then became a Registered Nurse in 2010, and eventually, I went back to school at Grand Canyon University and received my BSN in Nursing. When I worked as a nurse, I always used art as my therapy on the side. This helped me cope with my emotions, working with medically fragile children.
My career and past childhood traumas eventually affected my mental health in 2013 and 2018. During this time, I began to paint more and started my Art business in 2021. I have been a part of and attended different events in Maricopa County, that provided me the opportunity to sell my art. I also started my online art business.
Since then, I have been doing my art business to help stop the stigma of mental illness; to help others use art, as a way to cope with their emotions and manage their mental health. I have also been using my art earnings to help donate to Central Arizona Shelter Services (CASS), the homeless shelter service in Phoenix, in addition to other charities that are important to me.
I also got to showcase and sell my art at FuelFest in 2022. This event is a car show that raises money for Reachout Worldwide (ROWW), a charity that helps people involved in natural disasters. It was a big opportunity for me! I will always be thankful to them, for allowing me to be an art vendor for such a big event.
Other opportunities began to open up. In 2021, I moved to Chandler. I had the opportunity to attend the Multicultural Festival in 2023, for the very first time. It was at this event, that I had the amazing opportunity of meeting Angel Encinas, the City Council Member for Chandler. He let me know about the Arts Commission for the City of Chandler and recommended I join. I took the offer and applied. On March 23, 2023, I was selected by Mayor Kevin Hartke and the City Council of Chandler to serve my city in the Arts Commission.
I currently sell my art in Downtown Chandler, at the Farmers Market; in addition to my online website. God has helped me so much throughout my life and continues to open doors for me! I know that, as long as I continue this path in going after my dreams, God will continue to bless me and allow my art business to keep on growing.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been a smooth road for me. In life, there were many failures and setbacks; however, I never gave up. I always picked myself up, whenever I fell down. I thank the Lord Jesus Christ, and my family for always being there for me, and always supporting my dreams.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I mainly do portraits of celebrities, commissions, and abstract paintings. I am most proud of my abstract paintings because they are the paintings that my buyers are mainly interested in. Painting them allows me to express my emotions on a canvas.
I believe what sets me apart from others is that I do different types of paintings. I am not limited to only one type of artwork. Also, I’m using art to help stop the stigma of mental illness and help support charities with my earnings.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
They may not know that I enjoy singing and dancing.
