Today we’d like to introduce you to PLYTME.
Hi PLYTME, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m originally from Milwaukee, WI, moved to AZ a few years ago. I was a late bloomer, didn’t start making music until I was 19 after a few years of writing/performing spoken word. Then one day I got started writing and recording in my dorm room, began to teach myself how to engineer and the rest was history. I performed in bars, clubs, basements and any other type of venue I could get on stage. I’ve been at it for about 10 years now and I’m still surprised at everything that’s happened because I wouldn’t have ever expected to be a musician/performer.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
“Smooth” isn’t the word I’d use to describe it, it’s been rather eventful. I’ve had a lot of ups and downs throughout the last decade, I’ve had laptops and hard drives stolen, I’ve severed relationships and friendships, spent a lot of money that didn’t yield a return, had a chance to peek behind the industry curtain, etc. For every year since 2016 I can write a novel about the crazy things that I’ve been through.
I’m not a pessimist though, I’ve also met great people who have helped me on the way, created amazing music that I never thought I could, I’ve gotten to go places because of my creativity that an ordinary desk job wouldn’t give me.
I can honestly say I wouldn’t trade these stories and lessons for anything else. The ride isn’t smooth but the whole point is to enjoy the journey on the way to the goal.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a rapper/singer, writer, producer, engineer, director and photographer all wrapped into one. I primarily make hip-hop, r&b, but i like to mess around with rock, pop, and alternative sometimes too. I’m very eclectic in all my interests and I think that comes across in my music too. I’m not limited to one style, sound or genre. I’m a chameleon. If i can feel it, I can make it. My versatility plays a big part in being able to make better music as I progress, being able to incorporate multiple inspirations.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I’ve been the same chill, silly, creative person since day one. The only thing that changed was growing a beard. I was always into some form of art (film, paint, draw, music) or writing, I was raised by a teacher, so my Mom always had a pen and paper in my hand, writing. I’m pretty sure that’s why I’m able to pride myself on my ability to write today.
