Today we’d like to introduce you to Paris Prynkiewicz. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Paris is a podcaster, author, speaker, and mental health advocate! Paris began her work by shattering the mental health stigma starting with herself.
Inside the pages of her memoir, “Crooked Illness: Lessons From Inside & Outside Hospital Walls,” Paris details how she went from struggling with a recent diagnosis of bipolar disorder from inside the walls of a psychiatric hospital to returning to make an impact, working there.
Paris launched her podcast, “Master Your Mental,” to dive deeper into expert solutions for mental health that everyone can access. Paris is a speaker with NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) where she shares her personal journey with bipolar disorder and the steps she took to create the life she only used to dream of living.
Paris will continue working toward shattering the stigma associated with mental illness to restore hope to those who have lost it and feature solutions and education on the topic.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest obstacle was shattering the stigma I had tied to my struggles with bipolar disorder in the past years. I struggled to share my story, publish my book, launch my podcast and speak at events out of fear and shame. This is the same fear and shame that I had associated with the struggles I faced with bipolar disorder.
I felt sharing my story would lead to judgment and rejection from those close to me and even strangers. I overcame all these fears by stepping out of my comfort zone and understanding the major impact this message would have on others. There are so many out there struggling with their mental health or know someone who they care for who is.
I want these people to know that it is okay to ask for help and start the journey of doing the work. Mental health is the foundation for everything and I only hope my experiences continue to help others access their own solutions.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Paris hosts the “Master Your Mental” podcast where she features eye-opening mental health stories of experts in their fields. These stories are packed with steps and solutions for anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and overcoming various obstacles in life.
Paris is the author of “Crooked Illness: Lessons From Inside & Outside Hospital Walls.” In her memoir, she dives deep into all the details surrounding her personal struggle with bipolar disorder, misdiagnosis, hospitalization, therapy, medications, and what she did to take back control of her life.
Paris is most proud of the profound impact she has had in terms of helping others navigate their mental health in a way that shatters the stigma and overcomes these obstacles.
What sets Paris apart from others is her willingness in vulnerability with speaking candidly about struggling with bipolar disorder and detailing the good, the bad, and the ugly. Paris is not afraid to use her story as a testimony and light to guide others or those with loved ones struggling with mental illness.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Finding a mentor and networking is crucial for success in creating work and content that is valuable to others. To find a mentor, I would suggest doing research on the impact you are trying to create and reaching out to those who have created that same impact.
Work with them and for their cause by surrounding yourself with these individuals to keep learning. For networking, I would recommend doing research online on different events taking place local to you that align with your passion and work. A great networking event I am part of locally is Arizona Entrepreneurs.
AzE has allowed me to develop relationships with others who do work in the field of mental health and mindset. Just get out there and see how you can add value to others and you will grow so much from those experiences.
