Daily Inspiration: Meet Oli Nevins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Oli Nevins.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Oli Nevins and I was born and raised in Ukraine. Got my master’s degree in Finance and moved to sunny AZ 11 years ago. I have built my career in Finance and Treasury, but always had the desire to do more creative types of work. That’s why I got certified as a permanent makeup artist in 2020 in Europe and then in 2021 I got my PhiAcademy microblading certificate in the USA. I kept my beauty business as a side gig while working as a Treasury Manager for Corporate America.

Unfortunately in February 2022 due to the Russian invasion of my home country Ukraine, I had to leave my career and work on bringing my family to Ukraine to safety. I did a lot of volunteering work here in the Valley and helped Ukrainian refugees, as well as became a part of a nationwide Ukrainian political advocacy group, having quite a few congressional meetings at the Capitol Hills.

As a result, I have invested all of my time outside of volunteering into developing my permanent makeup at Nevins Beauty Studio located in Old Town Scottsdale. Microblading and permanent makeup (PMU) are my passions. I believe in helping women and men with feeling more confident about their appearance, highlighting their natural beauty, and adjusting any minor imperfections. I see beauty in everyone. My craft gives me the tools to accent what is already there.

Supporting Ukraine and people in need there is very important to me, and I donate 10% of my proceeds to support this cause.

As you also know 65% of Ukrainians lost their jobs and I am working on another project of mine – opening an online store in the USA to support Ukrainian designers. While the main website is not in production yet, I started IG page @braivery.boutique where I sell beautiful head scarves by Ukrainian designer Luda Kaminski. Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If you are a business owner, there are no shortcuts or easy roads. You have to build your idea, brand, and business from scratch. Because I am passionate about it, I did not give up and was only moving forward going through the obstacles. The biggest struggle was a mindset switch – from steady paychecks working an 8 to 5 job to looking for a client and proving why you are the best professional in your industry and he should use your services. It could be stressful, but “just don’t give up” – that’s what I was telling myself every day.

In my business you have returning clients every 6 months to 1.5 years, it is important to put yourself out there and always look for a new clients. But when you have the best intention in your heart – to make clients feel happy and more confident about their appearance – that is what makes you move forward every day.

In 2023 I am starting my new campaign “Pay With Smile” where I will be doing a complimentary brows treatment for cancer patients. I am looking forward to giving back more to communities.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My favorite treatment on the list that I provide to clients is microblading. It’s a hair stroke technique that makes your brows look more full and so natural. I also do Powder Brows (a type of PMU done using machine shading technique) and Combo Brows (combining microblading and powder brows) treatments as well as Lip Blush.

I do individual approaches for each customer to make sure their treatment is customized to their preferences at the same time following natural brows and face proportions and using only the best quality pigments.

I’m proud of the most of my ability to give back to the communities through the Pay With Smile campaign helping cancer patients as well as donating to people in need in Ukraine.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love the weather in Az, the majority of the days are sunny and warm which makes you want to be outdoors as much as possible except for summers. Being surrounded by the endless beach here, the ocean – is what I am really missing.
