Daily Inspiration: Meet Nichol Gerber

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nichol Gerber

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I knew that I’ve always wanted to be a stay at home mom. It’s been my dream job since I was in high school.
While being a mom, I also have a lot of hobbies.
In 2019, I was going through a divorce & needed a creative outlet. I was scrolling through Pinterest & saw a tutorial on how to make clay earrings. The next day I went to my local craft store & began to learn the process of how to make them. After a lot of trial & error, I had about 20 pairs of earrings & decided to sell them. They were all sold out within an hour of sharing them online. From there on my small business Shiloh and Rem was born.
In 2021, I got remarried & I ran that business for a few years when I slowly started to do it less and less after my son was born 2022.

Making clay earrings and running Shiloh and Rem was my creative outlet. So when I was no longer running the business & trying to figure out my new life/routine as a mom, I knew I needed to find new hobbies to pour myself into.
I really enjoyed creating content for Shiloh and Rem’s instagram so I decided to start creating content on my personal instagram about motherhood & sharing my new hobbies online.
I really got into baking sourdough & sharing the process with my audience. I’ve also been teaching myself how to sew & sharing the projects I’ve completed.
Some times the days of being a stay at home mom can feel isolating & repetitive. But I’ve come to love the daily mundane and there’s so much joy & beauty in it. I still have so many dreams & goals in life that I am choosing to not pursue right now because I want to be home with my children. I know that my time to do those things will come. But I want to be home. Present with my children. Creating new hobbies for myself has been a fun way for me to still feel like “me” while I’m in the thick of the little years.
I hope that any mom who comes to my page feels encouraged to try new things & to pick up that hobby they’ve been wanting to try.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest challenge I’ve been facing is how often I choose to be on my phone. I love creating content & connecting with other moms but it’s very time consuming & you can easily be sucked into it for hours if you’re not careful. As my kids get older I’m very mindful with when I’m on my phone. I’ve being trying to set time limits on when I chose to post/engage online which is usually when they are napping or in bed for the night.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My goal in sharing my life on social media is to be a light — to encourage other moms that they can still learn new things, even during the hard days and weeks of motherhood. I often get messages from moms saying how my sourdough videos have inspired them to start their own sourdough journey.

It’s so much fun when they send me pictures of their process and share how it’s going for them.

I’ve met so many wonderful friends through social media, and I’m so proud of the little community I’ve built. We can all relate and encourage each other through similar seasons of motherhood.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Don’t compare yourself to others. It’s so easy to get caught in the comparison trap, but comparison steals joy. Just because one mom shares her perfectly spotless, clean house doesn’t make you any less because yours doesn’t look like that.

Remember, you only get a small glimpse into people’s lives through social media — it’s a highlight reel.

As someone who shares parts of my day as a mom, I often get asked how I do it all. But in reality, I don’t. What I share online is just a small, edited glimpse into my day-to-day life. I might post a before-and-after of a hobby I’ve been working on, and it may look like I did it quickly, when in reality, I had been working on it in small pockets of time over several weeks.
