Today we’d like to introduce you to New Misphoria.
Hello New Misphoria, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Bella and I met through the Tucson youth music scene. I was a huge fan of the band she was involved in at the time – and from the first time seeing her perform, I knew I wanted to make music together! At some point, she reached out to me through instagram about a song I’d released.
Through the power of the wide web, we met up, jammed, and started New Misphoria. At times we thought about branching out and adding other members. But time and time again, we decided that we were always gonna be best as a dynamic duo.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As we all know, all bands have their up and downs. Bella and I are fortunate to get along quite swell – so we only seem to face the challenge of time.
Being young adults looking to find our way in the world means less time to focus on some things we love. Plus, Bella and I are a few years apart in age, so life moves and flows in different ways for us both.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I think we are proud of the ways in which we connect with our fans and our community. We try and uplift members of Tucson and create a space for young people to share in the beauty of music. Each month we host an event where local musicians and artists are invited to share their work.
This is something we really value because it allows us to use our influence as public artists to do something important – to remind the youth that we’re all connected and that together, life doesn’t have to feel grim. And of course, after 2 years of playing together, we’re proud to share the evolution of New Misphoria’s music. It is such a special moment when you hear the audience at the show singing the words alongside you, and dancing like they don’t care. Nothing quite like it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I think we’ve been fortunate to avoid much bad luck. Bella and I started playing together during covid, so maybe that was our luck in a way. That we came together at a time when life stood still, and music was a needed outlet. Good luck amongst the bad.
