Daily Inspiration: Meet Natalia Farahmand

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalia Farahmand.

Natalia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have a passion and eye for beauty that developed early in my career. For over fifteen years in the beauty industry, I have contributed my skillsets through entrepreneurship, diversity, and inclusion. As a Persian-Canadian, I pride myself on delivering beauty excellence for all ethnicities and moving with technology shifts that have affected the beauty industry.

As a multiple award-winning makeup artist and hairstylist, I have completed numerous artistic photo shoots and productions, including multiple global publications that give a voice to those often excluded from the beauty industry. I’m not a stranger to redefining the definition of beauty; with the current lack of diversity in the cosmetic industry, I felt compelled to change the status quo.

My company Desiderio Beauty is the phoenix of the beauty industry through resetting and aligning with the true values of beauty and cosmetic consumers. Desiderio Beauty expanded globally to include the USA, UK, Dubai, Ghana, Australia, Philippines, and France. As a first in the beauty industry, Desiderio Beauty began accepting crypto payments through our online shop in early 2020. Additionally, launching the innovative “Makeup & Crypto ™ “branding promotes further inclusivity globally. I continuously strive to educate new artistic talent and mentor or teach students the importance of diversity, representation, and inclusion in the beauty industry.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think any path to success is fully smoothly paved. The biggest struggle for us creatives is living in our power with or without receiving recognition for works of art that are out of the box. Breaking barriers and changing the status quo has their challenges, but it is a beautiful journey once we break through.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
My eye and passion for beauty started very early on. Makeup has been a way to channel energy towards helping others feel and look their best. As my career developed, there were constant challenges with a lack of diversity in the cosmetic industry, often feeling underrepresented and unable to quite “fit in.” I dreamt of an industry that promoted inclusivity and diversity. We believe the key to feeling great is looking great, which starts with using products that promote equality and acceptance, aligning with the values of our consumers.

For some time now, the beauty industry has catered to the needs of a select few, leaving many feeling unheard. At Desiderio Beauty, we believe unity is our collective social responsibility. Our brand is focused on catering to those whose voices have been less represented through universal shades, suitable for everyone. All our services and product shades are delicately chosen to cater to a wide range of skin tones and a botanical formula perfect for any skin type. We even have a universal Glow suitable for ANY light, medium, and dark skin tones. We listen to our consumers and ensure that we deliver their needs.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
One thing myself and my brand took away due to the global crisis is more compassion. Everyone has a battle they are struggling to fight. We must have patience and empathy, understanding that mental health is just as significant as physical health.
