Today we’d like to introduce you to Missy White.
Hi Missy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m the owner of pure precious photography in Tempe Arizona. I am a published photographer and my work has been featured in over 10 plus magazines in the past 4 years. I specialize in portrait photography. I love capturing memories for families, models, couples, engagement, maternity and more. I also enjoy artistic collaborations.
I am a full time working mother of 2 amazing kiddos. I started getting serious with my photography about 4 years ago when I had my daughter, I decided to start learning more improving my photography and turning it into a part time job and hobby.
I started mentoring some photographer friends that I had and joined some networking photography groups on Facebook.
From there I started Pure Precious Photography and haven’t stopped photographing and trying to improve my photography since.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There has definitely been struggles along the way! Time… time has always been my biggest struggle!
Trying to find the time to learn it all was alot. Most people think “how hard is it to hold a camera and push a button?” especially nowadays with all the cell phone cameras and editing technology apps, but there is more to it than that!
You need to learn your camera in and out, learn posing, angles, lighting, editing… with a full time job, having 2 kids under 4 years old, while working around your husband schedule as well was not easy..but with support and determination, I made it work.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I try do paid photoshoots on the weekends about 2 to 3 weekends a month and I also do artistic collaborations at least once a month.
I am in networking photography groups on Facebook and on there are photographers, models, makeup artists and more. It’s a place where we can express our concepts and meet up with others to create them.
I absolutely love what I do and the people that I meet and network with in this industry..
One thing I’m most proud of is being published photographer, I love seeing how far i have come and how much I have improved over the years.. I love to think that my kids can look in these magazines one day at my photographs and say “wow my mom took that”.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My husband and family definitely deserves credit and thanks for all of the support over the years.
Rae Shimmel has been an amazing support and dear friend throughout my career. She is a photographer, model, coaching stylist, and an inspiration to many throughout the valley. I can always call her and ask her any photography question and she’s always up for trying new concepts and modeling for me to try new things.
Diem Lanakai has also been a wonderful friend/supporter in my photography. She introduced me to an ASU photography student who allowed me to mentor him and I learned a great deal from his name was John Joe.
Shrek Doty Is a nice family friend who has also taught me some things in editing and photography over the years Who I am greatful for.
I am also thankful to all of the people I have met in my networking photography groups on Facebook that have allowed me to work with them, collaborate with them, and learn from them This industry has some truly amazing people in it.
