Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikey Sarratt.
Hi Mikey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started tattooing about 14 years ago. I did a full apprenticeship it took about three years and I have always loved traditional American tattoos. And that’s the style that I have done since day one. And have never looked back. I opened high noon tattoo in 2008 with my good buddy Jeff and we grew that shop from 4 artists to 11 over the years and then in 2019, I opened 1912 tattoo. 1912 tattoo has more of a private studio feel to it and I have surrounded myself with artists that push me everyday to be a better tattooer and person.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think there has ever been a smooth road to doing a job you love everyday. My apprenticeship was rough working seven days a week and long hours and then starting out it was the same thing. I never took any days off and when I wasn’t tattooing, I was drawing and painting to get better and never being happy with anything I ever did. I always critique my work harder than anyone else and I always want my last tattoo to be my best one. But being able to do a job you love every day is worth all the hard work and I would do it again in a heartbeat and not change anything. All the bumps in the road along the way have made me who I am today
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a tattooer and I specialize in American traditional. I’m known for big bright and bold tattoos with classic imagery. I’m most proud of the fact that I never stop learning and growing in my art. And I think what sets me apart is just my style is just different enough that you can always tell my tattoos apart from everyone else.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I learned in my journey of tattooing is to never stop learning and pushing yourself to do better tattoos. And always try to push yourself to grow and not become stagnant in your art ever.
