Daily Inspiration: Meet Michelle Mckinney

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Mckinney

Michelle, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My Story

Life has a way of guiding us down unexpected paths, and mine has been a journey of resilience, growth, and passion. After earning a degree in hospitality, I spent over 15 years building a successful career in corporate sales, including 7 years in the hospitality industry. I thrived in this fast-paced environment, excelling in sales, relationship building, and guest service. However, when the time came to prioritize my family, I chose to step away from the corporate world and embrace the next chapter of my life.

During this time, I became an entrepreneur, owning a children’s boutique where I discovered a love for curating exceptional experiences for my customers. Later, I shifted my focus to the beauty industry, where I’ve spent nearly a decade as an independent hairstylist. Specializing in blonding, color corrections, tape-in extensions, and smoothing treatments, I’ve honed my craft with an intense attention to detail and a commitment to perfection. Guest service became my hallmark, and I found immense fulfillment in building relationships while helping people feel their best.

As hairstylists, we do so much more than hair. We have the privilege of significantly impacting our clients’ lives—boosting their self-esteem, creating a space for emotional connection, and often acting as confidantes. Through these personal interactions, we contribute to their overall sense of well-being, offering positive reinforcement and support while crafting a beautiful style. It’s a deeply meaningful role that goes far beyond the surface, and it’s one of the reasons I’m so passionate about this work.

In the midst of these professional transitions, I was also navigating the deeply rewarding journey of motherhood. Raising three incredible children—including supporting my son Landon as he chases his dreams of wrestling at the highest level—all of this has taught me the true meaning of dedication, patience, and sacrifice.

Now, life has come full circle. Leaving behind a thriving business in Michigan to return to Arizona—a place that has always had a hold on my heart—I’m essentially starting from scratch and it has been one of the most challenging yet exciting transitions I’ve ever made. Balancing my love and dedication to the beauty industry while supporting my son’s wrestling dreams has forced me to step outside my comfort zone and grow in ways I never thought possible. It’s a season of incredible transformation, one that has deepened my resilience, expanded my perspective, and brought immense joy and purpose to my life.

As I continue this journey, I’m inspired by the opportunity to create meaningful connections and evolve both personally and professionally. Life’s challenges have shaped me, and I’m grateful for the chance to embrace this exciting chapter with an open heart and a renewed sense of passion.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Balancing motherhood, entrepreneurship, and personal growth has been a delicate act, often requiring sacrifices and moments of self-doubt. Leaving the security of a corporate career to start my own business was a leap of faith that came with financial pressures and the uncertainty of building something from the ground up. Transitioning into the beauty industry meant mastering new skills, building a clientele, and proving myself in a highly competitive field.

On a personal level, raising three children while supporting their dreams—especially my son Landon’s demanding journey as a high-level wrestler—has required incredible perseverance. From long days driving to practices and tournaments to the emotional weight of being away from him as he pursues his goals, I’ve learned to navigate the bittersweet reality of letting go while still being his biggest cheerleader.

Moving back to Arizona was another challenge that pushed me out of my comfort zone. Leaving behind a thriving business and a life I’d built in Michigan for two decades wasn’t easy, but it was a choice rooted in love and the desire to embrace new opportunities. Each struggle has shaped me, deepened my resilience, and reminded me that growth often comes from the most uncomfortable places.

My chair is more than a place for hair transformation—it’s a space where people feel safe, supported, and uplifted. This connection with my clients, along with my relentless pursuit of excellence, has earned me a reputation as someone who goes above and beyond to deliver results.

What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients place in me to not only achieve their vision but also to help them feel their absolute best. We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I’ve always believed that growth begins where comfort ends, and risk-taking has been a defining element of my journey. Major risks have shaped who I am today, from leaving the stability of a corporate career to pursue entrepreneurship, to transitioning into the beauty industry where I had to build my reputation and expertise from scratch, and even moving my family across the country to embrace new opportunities. Each decision came with uncertainty, but also with the potential for growth, and I’ve learned to trust my instincts and bet on myself.

One of the biggest risks I took was leaving a thriving business and life I had built in Michigan for 20 years to move back to Arizona—a place that has always held a special place in my heart. Starting over professionally in a new state while supporting my son’s high-level wrestling dreams felt overwhelming at times. Yet, I saw it as an opportunity to challenge myself, step outside my comfort zone, and create something even greater. That leap has proven to be one of the most rewarding decisions of my life.

For me, risk-taking isn’t about recklessness; it’s about calculated faith. I see risk as a necessary ingredient for achieving anything meaningful. I weigh the potential outcomes, align my decisions with my values, and take action even when the path ahead feels uncertain. I’ve found that the greatest rewards come when I lean into fear, trust the process, and embrace the possibility of failure as a stepping stone to success.

Ultimately, I believe that risks are opportunities in disguise. Every bold decision I’ve made has stretched me in ways I didn’t think possible, fostering resilience, self-belief, and an unshakable determination to keep moving forward. Taking risks has taught me that even when the road feels uncertain, the pursuit of something greater is always worth it.
