Today we’d like to introduce you to Maxine Meadowcroft.
Maxine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
From an early age, I discovered my love for art through art lessons. I found a lot of fulfillment and a feeling of peace in expressing myself through creative activity. It became a hobby that I carried with me throughout my life. On my creative journey, I went through phases where I would practice one particular concept and then switch months later, so my gallery has become a collage of my interests at different times in my life. Today, I often paint when I want to feel a connection to the present moment or capture a particular feeling. Art is very therapeutic!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey is not always easy! There were moments when I felt like I had reached a creative standstill, like a plateau in the learning process. Some concepts were just especially hard for me! Going back to virtual lessons, gathering feedback, and practicing concepts with tutorials helped me a lot, and my skills are better for it. For me, there was a ton of importance in an ongoing education & I’m dedicated to finding ways to constantly improve.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Although I specialize in acrylic and oil painting, I experiment with all sorts of mediums. I’ve dabbled with alcohol ink, watercolor, tattooing, stone carving & more. I also spent many years as a graphic designer. My top sellers are abstract pieces, but lately, I’ve been really into painting landscapes and plant life.
My work can be found in local Phoenix shops, art festivals, and online & I’m proud of that! I just love the feeling of sharing my work with the world.
I think what sets my work apart is each piece is tied to my personal emotions. My creations are a direct expression of my individual emotional experiences (or even emotions I wish I was experiencing), making them inherently exclusive to my perspective and sentiments.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
From my earliest memories, I was an out-of-the-box thinker. This definitely came with certain challenges, but it was formative! I was also very dedicated to pottery from a young age, and it was the first medium that really spoke to me. Everything spiraled from there!
