Hi Luniela, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?

I am a proud Latin woman, born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and the second oldest of six siblings. Since childhood, I’ve always had a passion for creativity and self-expression. I dreamed of standing in front of people, showcasing my talents—whether through makeup artistry, fashion design, or painting with acrylic and oil.

Growing up in a hardworking family, success was defined by professional careers in dentistry, business, and medicine. My father was a dentist, and my mother an accountant, while many of my relatives pursued business and healthcare. However, I knew my path would be different.

My journey to independence began when I moved to the United States as a foreign exchange student in 1987. I was blessed with a wonderful host family in Rogers, Arkansas, where I graduated from Rogers High School. Though I returned to Honduras, I felt a strong calling to come back to the U.S. and pursue a future where I could use my creativity. I decided to study Computer Graphic Design and moved to Arizona, where my uncle, César Mazier, was the Director of the Desert Botanical Garden before founding his own landscaping and consulting firm.

After getting married, I relocated to Tucson, studying at Pima Community College. Later, my family and I moved back to Phoenix, where I had my first child in 1999. It was during this time that I unexpectedly discovered my passion for Interior Design. A chance encounter with a woman who was hesitant to show me her home changed everything. She welcomed my suggestions, transforming her space and, in turn, her confidence. She saw how I lit up with excitement and encouraged me to pursue interior design. At the time, I was just two classes away from completing my Graphic Design degree, but after discussing it with my husband, I took the leap—and fell in love with it.

For me, interior design is like solving a puzzle—bringing together light, functionality, and beauty to create spaces that feel harmonious and inspiring. I founded Luniela Inc., dedicated to transforming people’s dreams into reality. I completed my design studies at Phoenix College and was selected for an internship in the United Kingdom, where I deepened my understanding of historical and modern architecture.

With nearly 25 years of experience, I have worked on projects across the U.S. and internationally, developing styles that blend relaxation, sophistication, and contemporary elegance. I am known for integrating natural elements into my designs and treating every project as unique—never repeating a design. I take great pride in being a “house doctor”, remodeling homes to feel like new constructions. The best reward is seeing my clients’ joy when they say, “This is better than I ever imagined.”

My talented team helps bring my visions to life, ensuring every detail is crafted with care and precision. With a deep passion for design and a relentless drive to create breathtaking spaces, I continue to shape environments that inspire and uplift lives.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest challenge I ever faced was uprooting my life and moving to this country—an act born from the deep belief that I could fully explore my creativity. Growing up, I often overheard my family express doubts about the viability of an artistic career. They believed that true success was reserved for professions like medicine, law, or other conventional paths, relegating creativity to a secondary role.

Yet, I listened to my inner voice. I knew that following the well-trodden path wasn’t for me. I chose to take a leap of faith and move to a place where I could redefine success on my own terms. This decision was more than just a change in geography—it was a commitment to honoring my passion and challenging the limitations imposed by others.

Every day in this new country, I remind myself that my journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and the importance of trusting one’s instincts. By embracing my creative spirit, I not only transformed my own life but also set an example for others daring to dream beyond conventional expectations.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As an interior designer, I specialize in both residential and commercial design, transforming spaces to enhance functionality, beauty, and ease of living. With nearly 25 years of experience, I am dedicated to delivering the highest quality service, ensuring each project is thoughtfully curated to reflect my clients’ needs and lifestyle. My approach blends contemporary and classic elements, creating visually stunning yet practical environments that inspire and elevate everyday experiences.

Any big plans?

As I look toward the future, my passion for design and creativity continues to evolve into new and exciting ventures. One of my foremost goals is to establish my very own studio—a dynamic space where art and design converge. This studio will be a creative haven where I can craft original art pieces that not only reflect my personal aesthetic but also elevate my clients’ homes into bespoke, living works of art.

In addition to creating captivating spaces, I am eager to share my journey and insights with the next generation of creatives. I plan to write a book that serves as a guide and source of inspiration for young designers and women who are navigating their own creative paths. This book will focus on building strong support systems and encouraging mentorship, proving that with the right guidance, every creative dream is within reach.

Mentorship, both locally and internationally, is a cornerstone of my vision. I believe that when we lift others as we climb, we build a vibrant community of talent and innovation. By sharing my experiences and offering support, I hope to empower emerging designers and aspiring women leaders to break boundaries and redefine what is possible.

With a blend of creativity, strategic vision, and a commitment to nurturing future talent, I am excited to embark on these new chapters. I look forward to transforming spaces, inspiring individuals, and creating a legacy that celebrates art, empowerment, and community.
