Daily Inspiration: Meet Lisa Foster

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Foster.

Lisa Foster

Hi Lisa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Originally from New Jersey, I started my career in Psychology but then accidentally fell into the world of Event Planning. I continued my schooling in Hospitality/Tourism. I branched out into the industry and held several different jobs, learning all I could along the way before branching out on my own with my planning company. We are now 12 years strong!

Gaining experience prior to starting on my own was the key. I learned and am STILL learning from so many others who came before me, and I am very appreciative of that experience.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Just starting a small business alone is overwhelming. Getting off the ground is difficult, but I love a good challenge and was ready for what the journey brought me. The most difficult aspect of the job was not realizing, in the beginning, how many hats you really must wear before you gain the knowledge and understanding of how to run everything efficiently.

During this time, I reflected on advice and knowledge that other vendors had given me to help me down this path. Every small business has obstacles, but if you truly have your heart in it, you will see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
From the very beginning, I knew I just didn’t want to do weddings and now I can proudly say we do not. We coordinate all types of events, weddings, corporate, private parties, and even out-of-state destinations. No matter the occasion, we can help you! Doing diverse events helps us to stay on our toes and be creative with our process. No two events are the same, and we love that!

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
We love Phoenix. When we started in downtown 10 years ago it was nowhere close to what DTPHX is today. We are happy we have been a part of the downtown community and have been able to watch it grow. We love all the independent coffee shops and boutiques that have come to be some of our favorite. Always support local! Typical answer of what we don’t love… the heat during the summer!
