Hi Lauren, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have worked in retail industry for the last 15 years with most of that time spent in luxury retailers, skincare and fragrance.
After losing my job in the cosmetic industry due to Covid, I decided to take a leap of faith and bring to life my dream of having my own business. I was inspired to create this collection of luxury, sustainable candles because I love the daily ritual of striking a match to light a candle. However, I struggled to find a candle that was both aesthetically pleasing AND non-toxic. Which is why I decided to launch Maxwell Rowe in November 2020. I am proud to say that Maxwell Rowe candles are made with a strong dedication to sourcing good for you ingredients while delivering a luxury aesthetic. All of our candles are made with organic coconut wax, a woven bamboo wick and essential oils. Candles are a simple way to brighten your most sacred space and fill it will positive vibes. I hope my customers love them as much as I do!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As any entrepreneur would agree, there are many good days and of course some bumps along the road. I am a one-woman show here, handling everything from the website, product development, processing orders, shipping, social media, etc. Most recently, an obstacle I had was shipping in the Phoenix heat! Shipping 100% organic coconut wax candles in 100+ degree weather was causing the wax to melt during shipment. I now ship with cold packs to avoid this issue.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Maxwell Rowe stands apart from other candle companies because a portion of every item sold is donated to a local non-profit animal rescue here in Arizona. Not only are my customers getting a beautiful non-toxic candle for themselves, they are giving back with every purchase, which is incredibly special. I am so proud of this remarkable brand I have built because I chose to step outside of my comfort zone and follow through with my vision. I have learned so much along the way and accomplished things I never thought were possible – in this short time, it has been a very rewarding experience. I couldn’t have done it without the amazing support and encouragement of my husband, which I am so grateful for.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I love to collaborate with other small businesses! I recently started offering wholesale pricing so a huge way to support my business is by carrying a few of my scents in your retail space. However, I know that is not always an option for small business owners so another way would be referrals. Referring a friend, colleague or family member to my online store helps me spread the word and gain more customers.
