Daily Inspiration: Meet Laura Alzubi

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Laura Alzubi.

Hi Laura, we’re so excited to have you on the platform. Before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I started this business during the pandemic after my 8-year-old son wanted to make soap for the homeless. I was instantly intrigued as it sounded like the perfect combination of art and science! You see, I have always had an artistic side to complement my career in science, which is likely why I excelled as a Fingerprint Analyst for the Crime Lab of Phoenix for over 16 years. However, the year 2020 really shook up my health and my family but allowed me to pause, breathe, and reflect on my future.

We made that first batch of soap, and I was hooked. I started realizing that creating skincare was something I enjoyed immensely and that I could change my family’s skin, one person at a time. I researched the benefits of each ingredient in my soaps and started expanding my product line. Soon after in 2021, many of my extended family and friends urged me to make a career out of this new adventure, so I ended up on the path of entrepreneurship with Scrub Studio Soaps.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was very difficult to leave my career as a Forensic Scientist as I had worked in the field of Microbiology/Forensics for over 25 years.

I felt like I would lose the part of myself that I worked so incredibly hard to establish. During my tenure at the Crime Lab, I provided services to my community and victims of crimes. I worried that this path might not be as fulfilling, as this was a very important aspect of my life and work.

From the start of this small business, we have continually given back to various charities. Since this was the intention set by my son originally, I honor this intention with my business in giving back.

We participate in many fundraising events each year, donating many raffles, gifts and often times a percent of sales. We also donate a percent of each sale to schools/churches/hospitals, and of course several homeless organizations each quarter of the year.

I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Scrub Studio Soaps uses the finest ingredients to formulate a vegan product line.

Our cold processed soaps are our best sellers, made with organic oils, raw butters, clays, and non-toxic fragrances or premium essential oils. Each soap is luxurious, nutrient packed, and benefits the skin unlike other soap bars. All soap bars are artistically created in small batches, hand cut, and cured 6-8 weeks prior to release.

We also create other skin-loving products, such as organic face oils, whipped sugar scrubs, luxurious body butter, botanical bath teas, all-natural bath bombs, and even lip products.

Our specialty is creating beautiful gift sets with our product line. Birthdays, housewarming, holidays… you name it! Our gift sets can be customized to suit any special event and are curated with elegance.

What sets us apart from others is the fact that every product is fully researched, fully tested, and naturally based. Almost our entire line consists of premium skin care products that are fragranced with essential oils or botanical naturally extracted fragrance. We are also mindful of eco-friendly packaging and containers.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
The biggest risk I have taken is starting this business.

I still ask myself each day if I made the right choice, but then I am reminded that I have more time for my family and more time for my health, and I have the opportunity to impact the community and well-being of others by creating non-toxic skincare products. I am surrounded by support from family, friends, and many new small business owners I have met along the way.
