Daily Inspiration: Meet Kristen Severson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Severson.

Hi Kristen, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
When I (Kristen) started my career in physical therapy in 2009, being a business owner was not my dream. I went to school to be a physical therapist and I wanted to spend my energy being the best I could at that. I started in a single owner out patient clinic and had a wonderful run for the first 5+ years. I saw a high volume of patients each day/week and I did the best I could to provide them with quality care and advance my skills professionally during that time. I moved then to a large corporate clinic where I was afforded some great continuing education opportunities and met some great people. I was still seeing a high volume of patients every day. As I looked for the next opportunity, I wanted more time with my patients, to understand their limitations and to better adjust my care to help them get the most out of their rehab experience. I still did not think business ownership was going to be my path.

I left corporate for another single owner out-patient clinic and hit the patient care jackpot. We only saw 1-2 patients per hour (a decrease from my previous 3-5/hour) and I had more ability to adjust care as needed to fit the unique needs of my patients. As I continued to grow personally and professionally my desire to provide exceptional care increased and with it came the nagging thought that it was time to do my own thing. 4 years into that role, the clinic was sold to another company…

Now here we are, 16 years and 3 clinics later and the story has changed a bit.

I now provide in-home physical therapy care in Gilbert, Mesa, Chandler and Queen Creek.

It is my deep desire to provide high level, personalized, adaptable care to my patients. I do not have it all figured out yet and I will continue to learn and grow as a business owner, physical therapist and a person, all of which will allow me to better serve my patients.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The initial transition from working in a traditional outpatient clinic 30 hours a week to becoming a solopreneur running a mobile, home-based practice was wild. We had moved into a new home just two weeks prior, had five kids at home all under the age of nine, and were still finding our footing after the chaos of the pandemic shutdown. I started with only five patients and spent the rest of my time unpacking boxes, taking continuing education courses, and learning how to start and run a business.

Thankfully, I had some great patients early on, and that slower start gave me the space to be present for my kids as we all adjusted. Year over year, the practice grew, with most referrals coming through word of mouth from current and past patients. 2025 was an interesting year as the world continued adjusting to a new reality, which definitely impacted an out-of-network, cash-based practice. It pushed us to learn new skills around marketing and visibility, making sure that the people who need us can actually find us.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a physical therapist, and I’ve built a practice focused on providing high-quality, in-home care for patients across Gilbert, Mesa, Chandler, and Queen Creek. I work with people dealing with pain, injuries, and movement limitations, supporting both surgical and non-surgical cases. My goal is to help patients regain strength, mobility, and confidence so they can get back to living their lives fully.

What sets my work apart is the way I blend traditional physical therapy with a deeper focus on the nervous system and whole-person care. In addition to hands-on treatment and movement-based rehab, I offer services like Low Energy Neurofeedback (LENS) to help regulate the nervous system, along with tools such as red light therapy and vagus nerve stimulation. I’m also in the process of completing my menopause certification, which allows me to better support women navigating that transition and help them feel strong, informed, and empowered in this next phase of life.

What I’m most proud of is the trust my patients place in me. Much of my practice has grown through word of mouth, which tells me that people feel heard, supported, and cared for in a way that goes beyond a typical appointment.

What’s next?
My plans for the future are centered on continuing to provide in-home care, because I’ve seen how much it reduces barriers and makes it easier for people to actually receive the care they need. Being able to meet patients where they are remains one of the most meaningful parts of my work.

I’m also looking forward to expanding my services with menopause-specific training, which will allow me to better support a population that is often underserved and navigating a significant transition. Beyond that, there are no major changes planned for 2026. My focus is on steady, sustainable growth and continuing to show up consistently for the health and well-being of the communities I serve.
