Daily Inspiration: Meet Kimmie Wolt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimmie Wolt.

Kimmie Wolt

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was always interested in metal detecting, but I never had anyone to do it with, that is until I met Sarita. Our story began when our youngest kids went to daycare together. We chit-chatted a bit, and she let me know she metal detects. Now I’m shy until you get to know me, so she had said if you ever want to go, let me know. Of course, I didn’t until she had made a Facebook post saying open invite to the river to treasure hunt. I was in, and we have been together ever since. It wasn’t until we were on the news in 2022 that we decided to start a YouTube and try and earn money that way. We never charge for our services, we do it for free. For us, metal detecting is free therapy. Out sometimes in the wild or at a park with our kids, it brings us peace.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It really hasn’t been easy. We have our Facebook group, and we have about 5-600 group members our following on YouTube is rising but, it isn’t as fast as we both would like. So that means regular jobs. Sarita has a store in Merchant Square where she is selling her mother’s very large antique collection, and hers and I run GearHead Automotive and help my boss with tasks for his other company Hydro Electric Service company, I’m also a Notary. Besides personal struggles and being full-time mom’s it’s sometimes hard to just drop what we are doing to go out on an adventure but, we make it work. Sometimes together and sometimes alone or with other people.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Well, we treasure hunt for fun, and that is our business. We find people’s lost belongings and return them to the owner. I’m sure a lot of treasure hunters have been on TV or the news. Last year, we were on the news because Sarita’s son found a piece of jewelry in the park with his metal detector. After we looked at it, we discovered it was an urn. After a day search, we were able to find the owner. Next thing we knew, we were on the news. Our Facebook group went from a few hundred to 600 before we knew it. At that point in time, we started our YouTube. Since then, people reach out to us to find their lost phones, jewelry lost at the river or lakes and even at parks. We do both land and snorkel the river and lakes. Next will be scuba eventually. When we are out adventuring whether it’s local or recent places like Florida, California, and Mexico, we don’t mind if people approach us. We enjoy talking about metal detecting, and generally, we have replica pirate coins for the kids. When I’m not metal detecting I work at Gear Head Automotive & transmissions as the shop manager and help my employer with his other company Hydro Electric Service I’m also a Notary of Public.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out.
Just keep smiling and try to make a plan. We just did it. And honestly, that’s ok too. Join groups that do what you do. We joined the AJ GPA group which I’m now Secretary for, and we were able to network that way and meet like-minded treasure hunters and a new add-on to what we do. Get business cards, and for us, we did stickers too. You’d be surprised how many people reach out or follow us just because they saw a sticker.
