Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Banks

Hi Kayla, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always been the one amongst my peers that loved fashion & beauty and loved creating memories with my camera. I decided in 2016 that I wanted to build a following on Social Media, although I was unsure what that would look like and what my end goal would be. I started by posting general fashion looks on my social media that went viral. Photographers began reaching out to do photo shoots and I was introduced to other plus size models/influencers & the rest is history. 6 years later and I now have a following of over 420,000 followers across all of my social media platforms and have worked with 100+ brands.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasnt been a smooth road but I wouldn’t have it any other way. People think that creating content is so easy. Its not as simple as taking pictures and posting. I’ve had to be my own makeup artist, hair stylist, create and style looks, spend hours shooting and editing content, then having to respond to brands since I don’t have management can be overwhelming. Also, there are times I’ll put minimal effort into content and it’ll go viral effortlessly — I’m talking about content I put zero effort into that’ll be viewed by millions and come with multiple brand offers. Then theres times where I will stay up all night working on a content to post that’ll barely get any engagement. Algorithims are the hardest thing to learn. That is the risk you task sometime being a content creator, not everything will be recognized but because this is my passion I never give up even when it feels like my hard work is for nothing. I still have struggles till this day but I have such a bigger vision for myself and know itll open many other doors for me.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a influencer who’s main target audience is Mid-Size to Plus-Sized women, although I want to display self love and love for your body to ALL women. I am most known for my confidence and giving women fashion inspiration for curvier body types. What sets me apart is – although I am aware of what people know me for, I refuse to be categorized by a specific type of content. I am not a NICHE based creator. There are so many layers and things I am interested in and instead of being classified by a niche, I look at myself as a BRAND. You may see fashion content, but you may also see cooking content or video game content or even motivational content. I refuse to put myself in a box.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Alot of people are often shocked once they find out about my many hobbies, including gaming. I always hear “Girls dont game!”. Whatever that means lol not sure where that narrative came from but I love video games and I’m actually decent at it! My favorite game is called Apex and I’ve created a gaming community with other women who also love video games.
