Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlyn Graf.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
If you asked my mom what I said I wanted to be when I grew up, she’d tell you: a business owner. For much of my life, I didn’t have a clear picture of what that would look like, or how I’d get there.
In the early years of my career, I quieted an internal voice—a persistent pull toward something more creative. I knew that my calling was greater than a monotonous desk job. I wanted to use my gifts to inspire, create, and make a meaningful impact. At the time, I was working in a corporate role, feeling unfulfilled and uninspired, but unsure of how to pivot. Deep down, I knew I had a passion for interior design, but I didn’t know how to break into the industry or where to begin.
Later, through a mutual friend, I was introduced to the idea of wedding planning. I hadn’t imagined myself in the wedding industry, but that connection a few years in, turned out to be life-changing. I quickly fell in love with everything the role entailed: planning, designing, leading, coordinating logistics, building relationships with countless other wedding entrepreneurs, meeting couples from all different backgrounds, and bringing each of their unique love stories to life. Though my passion for interior design is there, I discovered a deeper fulfillment.
For a while, I balanced both worlds—working as a wedding planner while managing a new full-time job in design. About six months into my corporate design role, I began to feel the cracks. What once felt like a promising opportunity quickly became draining. The environment was intensely toxic—marked by harassment, unrealistic expectations, and a lack of basic respect. Slowly, my confidence within my role began to dissipate, and my mental well-being started to suffer. I found myself dreading each day, working a very demanding position with enough responsibility for at least two roles, and worried what drama I would involuntarily be involved in. It felt like my dream job was being taken away from me, when many, many, prayers later, I was presented with the opportunity to take over the wedding business I had been a planner for, Riding Tandem.
This had already been a dream for some time, but the timing was complicated. I was facing a number of personal challenges– they say when it rains it pours and it had been pouring for quite some time. I questioned whether taking this leap was the right move. But in the midst of the uncertainty, I chose to lean into my faith and trust the decisions I was about to make.
Fast forward, I’m incredibly thankful I found the courage to say yes.
Today, I’m living the dream I once only imagined—owning a business, creating a brand I am proud of, doing work that inspires me, and creating heartfelt relationships and celebrations. I’m proud to be the mentor and leader I once needed, and to embody the values at the core of our brand: honesty, intentionality, refined elegance, creative storytelling, flawless execution, excellence in every detail, trust and discretion.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not! The road to entrepreneurship is full of highs and lows, and while it’s incredibly rewarding, it’s also deeply daunting. One of the biggest challenges I faced early on was self-doubt. When you’re starting something new—especially something that’s creative and personal—it’s easy to question your own voice and wonder if you’re “enough” to make it work.
There were also logistical and financial hurdles—learning how to set boundaries with clients, working through the acquisition process, and wearing what felt like a hundred different hats at once. I had to become incredibly resourceful and I leaned heavily into my support system. I know without a doubt, I would not be here without my parents’ support. Not only have they made countless sacrifices to give my sister and I the opportunities to live out our dreams, they have acted as the therapists and business coaches I needed along the way.
One of the hardest is navigating burnout—especially still juggling a full-time job and building this business. But I’m grateful for each challenge. Without uncomfortability, there isn’t growth. I’ve learned to trust my intuition and to value progress over perfection.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Riding Tandem is a wedding planning company offering three tailored packages—month-of coordination, partial planning, and full-service planning—to meet each couple’s unique needs. Each offering includes a team effort in full wedding day execution, rehearsal coordination, vendor logistics and communication, a personalized digital planning dashboard, and professional guidance in making decisions. We understand what it takes to creatively hang drapery from 20ft ceilings and the importance of your ceremony timing. But ultimately, we believe in getting to know our couples, taking the time to understand their vision, priorities, budget, and personalities. Rather than relying on a generic vendor list or a one-size-fits-all approach, we make thoughtful, personalized recommendations that truly align with who our couples are.
We meet regularly—face-to-face—with our couples to ensure every detail is on track, every question is answered, and every planning session is productive and purposeful. Wedding planning is a time-intensive process, and can quickly become overwhelming. We’re here to guide couples through each decision with clarity and confidence. We’ve done the research, made the vendor connections, negotiated the deals, and can visually imagine the details.
What I’m most proud of is our hands-on, relationship-driven approach. The planner you meet at your very first meeting is the same planner who will be by your side on your wedding day. That consistency builds trust—and we take pride in being the reliable partners our couples can count on. Each story deserves more than a timeline. We design weddings as living narratives with intention. Our mission is to transform our couples vision into a seamless, stress-free experience, where meaning lives in the details and execution.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories was spending summer days at a lake in Montana. Life was simple—unplugged where we were all organically connected with minimal outside distractions. My cousins and grandparents were always nearby. It was a place where we valued stillness and our young imaginations thrived. We filled our days with dirt-covered adventures and made-up movie scenes behind the clothesline. Afternoons were spent on the water and in the evenings we gathered around the fire sharing stories. It was a break from the everyday routine— probably why I’m currently daydreaming and a trip to the lake sounds very enticing.
