Daily Inspiration: Meet Jennifer D’oliveira

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer D’oliveira

Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have been a businesswoman for 39 years. My original passion was fashion. The field didn’t fit – too cutthroat – so I started a wedding coordinating business. That was passion and very successful for 9 years. We relocated to the Phoenix area in 2006 so I closed the business. It had stopped being a labor of love. When we moved I focused my time on raising my daughter and then went back to retail. I then bought into a dog grooming boarding and daycare business. That business closed in 2015 along with my Pomeranian Rescue. I needed to find my passion again. None of these things were filling my cup.

I started dabbling in essential oils with Young Living and decided I loved it. My friend is the head of the massage therapy program at Phoenix College. She mentioned they were having a 5 week aromatherapy class so I decided to take it. I was hooked. The instructor led me to the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts in 2019. That was all she wrote – I had found my passion and calling.

I received my Aromatherapy Certificate of Excellence from the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts in December 2020. I received my Diploma in Western Herbalism in December 2022 from the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts. I received my Yoga Nidra Certificate of Excellence from the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts in October 2023. I received my Sound Healing Certificate of Excellence in November 2023 from the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts. I received my Associate of Occupational Sciences in Holistic Studies with an emphasis in Western Herbalism in April 2024. I am currently studying in the 1,000-hour Yoga Therapy diploma program at Southwest Institute of Healing Arts. and studying to be a yoga teacher.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not a smooth road. In February of 2022, I had to take a leave of absence from school. I checked myself into a treatment center for mental health because I had a nervous breakdown. What is the adage? Healer heal thyself? I felt that it was important to start healing from my trauma before I could heal anyone else. I came out of treatment to put my mother on hospice and she died 3 days later.

I also suffer from some rare diseases. I have 3 conditions that make a trifecta – Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), and MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome). I also suffer from chronic, severe migraine and have a 16-year-old headache. I have also had 10 surgeries on my left foot due to the EDS.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?

Both my brothers came into my life at age 5 and their dad adopted me. My sister-in-law was at my 6th birthday and is still married to my eldest brother. I was married young – att 22 years od age. As I said, I always knew what I wanted.
