Daily Inspiration: Meet Jameka Stanislas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jameka Stanislas.

Hi Jameka, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
All of my life, I knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur and create something to call my own. I sat on the idea long and hard because I wanted it to be something I was passionate about, and then in December of last year, it hit me. After years of hearing stories from friends and having encounters of my own with sexual harassment, stalking, and just the overall need to feel safe. I decided to create a brand focused around women’s safety and protection and on that day, Stay Guarded was born. Although I’ve only been in business for around four months now, the experience has been blissful. I can’t wait to grow, scale and introduce all the new things I have in store for Stay Guarded.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a mom, having a full-time job, and also running a business is a challenge in its own. Often times I get off work and go from one desk to another packing orders, ordering inventory and creating content for the next day. I go to bed pretty late, only to wake up early and do it all over again. It’s a roller coaster for sure but I wouldn’t trade it for nothing.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I create and design self-defense keychains which include a wristlet, a matching hand sanitizer holder (with hand sanitizer included), a puffball accessory, an alarm with a flashlight, a pepper spray, and a Kabuton. It’s provides the everyday women protection all in the palm of her hands. In the future, I plan to offer a variety of unique keychains while keeping the self-defense key chains still in store. I want to be everyone’s keychain provider!

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like most about Phoenix is that although most people think of this place as a desert, there’s so many hidden gems and oasis’s to find. There’s so much beautiful scenery to enjoy in this state. I’ve explored quite a bit but not all of them. I love traveling around Phoenix. What I dislike about Phoenix, simply put would be the heat! I’m originally from a little island and after being in Phoenix for almost 15 years, I’m still not use to it. Which is why I’m always on the hunt to find water to enjoy.
